I don't understand why most people are all "Oh - I want this variant and that" etc
Shouldn't they sort the core cast out first?
I mean...as yet there are a number of 'main' characters that have appeared in the opening credits that haven't yet seen a figure release.
01. Doyle (series 1) 02. Gunn (Series 1-5) 03. Connor (series 3-4 +5guest) 04. Harmony (series 5 +3guest)
Then there's the reoccurring ones...
01. Kate (15 Episodes) 02. Lindsay (21 Episodes) 04. Lyla (35 Episodes) 04. Eve (9 Episodes) 05. Groosalugg (9 Episodes)
In my opinion...all of the above warrant figures purely because they had such main roles...
Do some box sets?
01. Benediction Box Set: Connor (primal) Justine (6 episodes) and Holtz (8 episodes)
02. Wolfram and Hart Box Set: Lyla, Lindsay and Eve

Hmm, I don't think Sarah Thompson ('Eve') was ever in the main credits...
And besides, I think the entire world would generally want as many characters as possible over variants of the same guy anyday, but it's a money/part moulds issue on DST's side. I think a Gunn/Harmony wave is the general consensus amongst fans as to what they want most. I know I sure do. It doesn't make sense for them to never make Gunn, yet churn out characters like Joyce for the Buffy line.
Lastly, I think characters such as Jasmine deserve figures far before Kate or Eve. She was somewhat more important, plus villains are few and far between.
Edit: Oh, and lets not forget the Groosalug now. He was part of the Angel team for a short while too.

haha Spent so much time editing my post that someone snapped out my erros!
Good to know that at the exact point in time I did this someone else was paying attention!
Sweeeet ;D
I personally love the "Benediction" box set idea...get's Connor out of the way but also gives us some great villians in Holtz and Justine.

Joyce...well that makes alot of sentimental reasons as to why they made her.
But I mean like the "Pylien" (or whatever) angel - thats a new mould...and like De Hoffran

We'd all love a line every 4 months with 7 new characters but thats not really possible.
The figure market is in such a state where lines are failing constantly and companys are going under left and right. Making many variants of the MAIN characters (sorry, Doyle & Connor ARENT EVEN CLOSE) is how this line can survive.
Plus...the general figure buying public will buy Angel figures at a much faster rate than anyone else. Even after 18+ figures, Buffy is still the #1 selling character. Theres a reason for that. And thats why it makes more sense to do 5 Angels in a line using the same parts over and over than doing 8 different characters that wont sell as well and cost more to produce.
Anyone paying attention can see that DST is slowly slipping in more minor characters...Joyce, D'Hoffryn, Glory, Wood, Kennedy, Kendra, etc. So sit tight because if the first line of Angel figures consisted of Connor, Doyle, Eve and Kate...guess what...there never would've been a second line.

If the show were still on the air I think there would be a better chance of getting more characters (main or minor) made. The fact that either line is still going is pretty impressive, especially with the state of the toy market, as FM said.
Unfortunately DST aren't going to take the chance releasing characters that may sell well, but guaranteed won't do as well as other well known characters. That's why they favor the Buffy line over Angel, since while most fans are fans of both, a lot of people recognize the Buffy cast over Angel. A lot of people would recognize Harmony from her Buffy days, over say Connor.
If the 6" figures keeps going, I think we'll see one more Angel wave with Harmony/Gunn after the Oz/Dru wave, along with a one off sculpt of some other character. Then I think you'll see wave released more like the Xander/Cordy wave, where they will have variants based on both shows, or say core waves with one primarily Buffy character, and one primarily Angel character.

Their more varients less sculpting ideology is truely why the line is still afloat. But the sliding quality of the line is much more disruptive to sales than character choice nowadays surely. They've started stuffing in a few more diverse characters now; but with major selling players (in DST's perspective) finished with, the line just wont last everyone's fav obscure figure. I doubt Doyle will ever come out. Connor would be a risk but a delux one off could be on the cards. People like Justine don't have a chance.

Yeah, like everyones saying, its cheaper and easier to make new variants on characters reusing parts, and just so you know, DHoffryn was already sculpted from MAC, and Demon Pylea Angel just used a new head and hands sculpt, it wasnt an entirely new sculpt. And walking by a store, who would you rather buy, realistically Buffy Summers secret super hero yet hottie who weilds a giant axe or Lilah Morgan evil Lawyer who weilds a suit case and cell phone I mean, dont get me wrong I want them all, but now Im just gonna sit and wait, theyre getting us more and more characters like DHffryn, Joyce, Glory, The Judge, Wood, so I figure eventually well get what we want, or close, idk

I'd prefer them to start doing characters RIGHT. And by right, I would like DST to give us one definitive version of each character. Just one. They don't have to go back & give me 4 Cordelias or 4 Freds...but please - give us at least one good Fred, Cordelia & Angel.
Just one good Season 1/2 Cordelia with a scanned likeness. Please. Just one decent Fred. Just one attractive Angel.

Just one attractive Angel. Definitely that. David can't be that hard to reproduce can he? Everytime he's either too skinny or looks like an old man.

I would love to have all the Angel cast made into figures. Gunn I can see as one of the stars of a line (Harmony too) but I'm not sure if the others could. Maybe they could work like Joyce, Wood, Kendra and Kennedy though. I could see Doyle in either a two pack or released like Wood. Lilah could work as a two pack (with Wesley maybe.) I could see Connor and Lindsey as deluxe figures though.
I'd also like to have some Fred and Cordelia figures that look like the actresses. I'm really hoping that they get a deluxe treatment and turn out as good as the new Willow prototypes.

I know everyone wants Lilah and Lindsay but they really arent that important to me. I hope they would do one of each...maybe in a box set with another Lawyer...maybe hamilton or Lawyer Gunn. That would kill 3 birds with one stone.

I think that the best way to get the extra figures or the main characters that warrant a figure or two is by releasing many variants of the more important figures. Although it doesn't make much sense it is DSTs logic as we have seen. We got a Joyce and Glory figure with the Buffy/Dawn line. We are getting Principal Wood and The Judge with the Drusilla/Oz line, and Kendra and Kennedy with the Willow Deluxe line. I just wish that they would do a Gunn/Lindsey line with Connor, a Riley/Harmony line with Adam, Deluxe Fred/Darla with Jasmine, Deluxe Anya/Cordelia with a Halfrek figure and so many more. It seems as though they can incorparate so many extra figures in thier lines.

Yes, Harmony, Gunn, and Doyle! Yes, please!
Also, Lilah. That's my wish list.
Kate would be fun, too. But I'm not counting on her.

I don't see the point in turning your nose up at the extra characters included.
As said, they are generally included as they use an existing body & requires very little work.
To drop a figure like Wood or Kennedy does not mean they will be replaced by main characters, they probably wouldn't be replaced at all!
We get them as an extra bonus because they do not cost a butt load of money for DST to make.
Ask for all the main characters you want, buy all means, we all want them...but also appreciate the extra's we receive. To me atleast, they are a big part of a collection.

Shouldn't they sort the core cast out first? I mean...as yet there are a number of 'main' characters that have appeared in the opening credits that haven't yet seen a figure release. I agree. I wish DST would complete the main cast first, then go for the guest stars. I will still buy Wood and Kennedy, but I wish they would finish out all the main characters in case the line ends. If DST would just do RILEY, that would complete the entire lead cast for the entire Buffy series. Then they could start the list of guest stars. There's a few more to go with Angel: DOYLE, GUNN, HARMONY, and CONNER. I can live without Conner since I have him in baby form, but the others I feel I must have.

I definitely prefer "guest stars" over many of the "main cast"
Give me Faith, Kennedy, Kendra, Drusilla, etc. ANY DAY over Riley.
As it was pointed out...just because we get a Wood does not mean we arent getting a Riley. Since Riley is such a "main" character, it wouldnt look right for him to use the body of Spike, Xander, Wesley or Giles. He needs his own sculpt and he needs to be done right. No one is going to see a problem with Wood using Wesleys body. But pop a Riley head onto a tiny Spike body and its going to suck. Unless it was in the Deluxe line...and the next wave should include male figures so you never know...
Add onto that characters like Riley and Connor were NEVER popular with fans. DST knows this. I think Gunn will come in time and theres some kind of problem with Harmony and the actress or something so you never know about her. Go to a con and ask Mercedes McNabb where her figures are (you might get an answer if she doesnt cancel the appearance).
But yeah... Kennedy, Kendra, Wood, D'Hoffryn, Joyce, The Judge etc. They are now a huge part of my collection and the "extra" characters we get each wave have become the ones I most look forward to.

I'm just confused...everyone's saying "It's too risky - the lines are failing" yarde yarde yar...that so - isn't there more chance of them deciding not to make anymore before finishing of the main characters?
THAT would suck even more...unless they paid fairness to the fans and actually finished the line.

At what point was I turning my nose up? I came on this board and people are all "Waa waa" haven't done a Gunn, haven't done a Connor why is there no Riley etc So I made a post putting all this together simply pointing out that there are a number of 'main(er)' characters that should still get some kind of acknowledgement. I LOVE the side characters...I do! But there were also a number of posts about how the range will peter out as interest is waning and the show is not in prodiuction anymore. That said - it would be nice for them to indicate they are slowly putting out new characters...but Drusilla and Oz...again...through the Angel line? Drusilla appears to be a new sculpt - so don't give me the "hard to sculpt" line either...
