iI really enjoyed this episode although i dont like Giles very much it was good to find out a little about his past.
I kept laughing when Buffy at the end when said this
Buffy: You know what the worst thing is? I was saving up for some very important shoes, and now I have to blow my entire allowance to get this stupid tattoo removed. Let's just hope my mom doesn't see it first. I give the episode 9/10

Display of the rare dynamic on the show, of Buffy becoming Giles 'watcher'.
The obvioius metaphor of drug experimentation works well. From the experimentation in rebellious college days, to having a friend o.d. and die. Giles has quit but he can never hide the marks on his arm.
Also on a side note, that picture of Giles in his youth was the 17yr old head of Tony, placed on a picture of Sid Vicious playing bass guitar.

This is probably in my least fav 10 eps. I think the concept was good but in all honesty the episode was really boring. I think they brought Ethan back too soon and the concept really didn't work. A 4 out of 10

Any Ethan episode is a great episode in my book. I just adore him. I think this episode added a lot of dimension to the character of Giles, and we got a chance to view more of his psyche than in any prior episodes.
This episode following, Lie to Me just continues the build to the dark and tragic ending. It also prepares us for Gile's change in the upcoming 'Band Candy'.

Any Ethan episode is a great episode in my book. I just adore him. I have to disagree. I think Ethan has been over-used, every book and nearly every season; they use the same story - Ethan is back in sunnydale and he's up to mischief. I used to like him, but now I feel that he is dry, dull and boring, and no longer original.

Yeah I found that they started using him for filler eps which is a shame because I think he has a lot of potential to be an interesting charcter.

I have to disagree. I think Ethan has been over-used, every book and nearly every season; they use the same story He was in 4 episodes. And after Season 4, never appeared again. So I'm a little confused about your logic. I've only read a couple of the books, but I really don't equate them the same with the series. But cest la vie, I still enjoy his character and would have liked to have learned more about his and Giles past releationship.

He is quite commonly used in the books and the plot never really differs. If you like him I recommend 'The Gatekeeper Trilogy', 'Ressurecting Ravana' and 'Chaos Bleeds'.

But cest la vie, I still enjoy his character and would have liked to have learned more about his and Giles past releationship. Well in the books, he's always popping bringing chaos and it gets really repetitive, as they include the same storyline. Maybe it's my view on his book-appearences that have made me feel so negatively about him.

Another good episode. Up till this episode I didn’t imagined how cool Giles can be and this episode showed us how many layers people have…even if they’re seem to be very boring. In Giles case it seems as if he got so scared from his teenage experience that he totally depressed it under all that tweed and like many other thing in Sunnydale, you can’t burry your problem ‘cause they’d always come back. Also, it’s great to see how the scoobies got closer, and how much they care for each other. Like I’ve said, it’s yet anther good season 2 episode.

It's great to see Giles come into the limelight, be cool, keep some ass and leave you with loads of questions and thoughts on his past! I loved it!
