Mattel is set to rerelaunch the MOTU line (hopefully) this year. Things get started with a King Grayskull SDCC exclusive, as can be seen here: www.he-man.org/news_images/NYCC2008/king_grayskull.jpgwww.he-man.org/news_images/NYCC2008/king_grayskull2.jpgwww.he-man.org/news_images/NYCC2008/king_grayskull3.jpgDetails on this new line are scarce, but here's some, all copied and pasted from www.he-man.orgThe line will be a 6" Masters of the Universe collector's line The line will be super-poseable, using high-end articulation It will be comparable to the DC Universe line that is currently being produced by Mattel and sculpted by the 4H Mattel stated this line is definitely going to be for the collectors, and not for children They will be shipped in even case ratios. Mattel said "You are not going to see six Skeletors and one Beastman" The first figure in the line will be King Grayskull, who will be a SDCC Exclusive. King Grayskull will have a chase variant that is colored to look like the statue of King Grayskull seen by Adam from the MYP Power of Grayskull episode ---------------------------------------------------- There was also a kitbash He-Man in this style spied at SDCC 2007. It's made from DC Universe parts, so this may or may not be what the actual He-Man from this line looks like. I, for one, am really looking forward to this line. I do think Mattel has learned something from the previous relaunch, and by aiming these at collectors, I think they'll be wildly successful. Their new DC Universe Classics line is already on its second series and doing quite well, so I'm very hopeful. If GI Joe and Transformers can have successful anniversary lines, MOTU can too.

I'm excited by this line too, as it seems the are gearing them towards collectors. Must admit I am more excited by the Adora picture that was on display as a future figure choice lol.

Must admit I am more excited by the Adora picture that was on display as a future figure choice lol. Adora AND Marlena! There's two figures I never thought I'd see! Mattel showing them in the image would seem to indicate this is very much a collectors line. I hope we get some more characters from She-Ra too. We have never had a Madame Razz or Shadow Weaver action figure & they were soo cool looking! Anyway....I'm heaps pumped for this line. Can't wait.

I'm stoked about the Goddess figure (green Teela) from the early minicomics, plus a Hordak action figure. I bought the mini-statue in 2005, but I've been craving a new, modern Hordak action figure since the 200x line started.
I see they have the Wonderbread He-Man pictured in that collage. I wonder why? Guess we have to wait until SDCC at the end of July to see what's going on.

The chase bronze version of King Grayskull. Man, I want this one too.

Wow... they look great! Love the statue variant there. So... will this collector-oriented line be based on the older cartoon or the newer one? They show images from both cartoons, that's why I wonder. In a way I'm upset because I have so many of the 2002 series figures, and really, Mattel should have done these properly from the start. I don't want to re-collect all the same characters again. I'm sinking more money than I care to think about into toys this year as it is...

AFAIK, it includes every character except certain Filmation creations like Lizard Man, Evilseed, and some others. So we can see a classic He-Man in one wave and some time later, a 200x He-Man. As far as spending money on toys goes, I'm wholly prepared to jump ship on everything else I collect to be able to afford these, if I had to. MOTU was my favorite toy line as a kid, so nostalgia wins. I just hope they rerelease all the characters that were first issued as the mini-statues. I desperately want Stinkor and the Horde action figures.

VERY much looking forward to learning more about this line. I'm hoping that the "style" is a mix of the "classic" series and the 200X series (which the King Grayskull seems to indicate).
I'm also hoping they release a majority of the "big" names up-front, just in case the line doesn't last. I'd be happy if I could get: He-Man, Skeletor, Man-at-Arms, Trap-Jaw, Teela, Evil-Lynn, Stratos and Beast-Man. Ideally we'd also see the Sorceress, She-Ra and Hordak.
Cheers.

The he-man.org forums have some additional news (http://www.he-man.org/forums/boards/index.php).
The MOTU figures will ONLY be available for purchase from a new website Mattel is setting up (details at SDCC). ONE figure will be released for sale on the 15th of each month (starting in Fall (not sure what month that equates to in the US)).
The website WILL ship internationally.
King Grayskull will be available for purchase from the website at some point in time, without the electronics (in the packaging).
Fairly good news. Now I can only hope that the shipping won't make purchasing one figure per month prohibitively expensive (as compared to being able to ship 4/6 figures at the same time).
Cheers.

Hmm, will depend on international shipping like Haeph said, it could easily be a killer! Maybe they will make their other lines available like that as their distribution is so dodgy.

That is quite good news IMO.
So we should be seeing 12 figures a year...it will take them a while to get to a lot of those people they previously showed (Adora & Marlena for example).

Further info from Mattel is that there will be no limitations on the number of figures purchased. Thus, leaving it free for scalpers to purchase as many figures as they like (of limited figures) to sell for inflated prices on the secondary market.
It's like Mattel are taking two steps forward and one step back.
12 figures per year does seem a bit "restrictive" given they originally indicated that the first "wave" of figures would be from 6-8 figures. I want to support the line, but I'm not going to buy a bunch of secondary characters BEFORE I purchase the "essentials".
Wait and see I guess. It sounds like there will be a lot shown at SDCC and we can only hope for the best.
Cheers.

I'm guessing the figures to be in this sort of order:
1. Greyskull - ofcourse 2. He-Man 3. Skeletor 4. Merman 5. Man At Arms 6. Hordak 7. Teela 8. Stratos 9. Evil-Lyn 10. Zodak 11. Beast Man 12. Keldor
Though I would much prefer:
1. Greyskull 2. He-Man 3. Skeletor 4. Teela 5. Evil-Lyn 6. Man At Arms 7. Sorceress 8. Keldor 9. King Randor 10. Queen Marlena 11. Prince Adam 12. Princess Adora
But that's just me. ;D

Mattel has previously said that they would be included "Princess of Power" and 'New Adventures" characters. I don't know when they'll appear but if Mattel is true to their word, then it won't just be the "classic" MOTU characters who will be released.
That typed, I have to wonder how much interest people will have in the more obscure characters, especially if they have no "guarantee" of getting the "big" names.
And both Adora and Marlena were "pictured" when the original announcement was made. Not sure how "telling" that is though.
Cheers.

Personally, as I already have the 'big' names from the reboot and the stactions (at least the ones I wanted anyway) and a limited budget I'd rather they did the characters that weren't made in either of those lines. So yep I'd rather have the PoP characters to fill out the Horde and the Great Rebellion before they made ones that I have already in the other lines. Sure they aren't the 'classic' versions, but I for one rather liked the reboot designs anyway.

I for one rather liked the reboot designs anyway. So did I. I'm still collecting them I guess. Just haven't bought one in a long time...but have many more to track down. I hated those damn snake man versions of the regular guys. I bought a Snake Men Triclops & ended up replacing him with the regular release. I only have the Snake Men red Sy-Klone, but I will get the yellow one at some point. Zodak is next on my list. Sorceress will remain the only staction I own.

Pics of He-Man and Beastman are now up on Mattel's new website mattycollector.com
They're $20.00 each which seems to be a rip-off given there is a DCUC two-pack for the same price. I don't understand how Mattel can rationalise charging the same amount for a two-pack as it does for a single figure when they're all "exclusive" to the new website.
If international shipping is too pricey then I'll have to give this line a miss. A shame as the figures look great.
Cheers.

Pics of Mer-Man and Zodac: toynewsi.com/news.php?catid=13&itemid=13282Man, if this is what they're going to sell us for $20 plus shipping, forget it. I was hoping for a little conclusion to the 200x line, but I doubt I'll get it now.

I'm torn as well. I'm leaning towards just getting He-Man, Skeltor, She-Ra (if made) and Hordak (if made). The figures look good, but they're pretty much just the original 80's figures with better articulation.
I thought the line was going to look like a mix of 80's and the 200X line (which King Grayskull looks like).
Cheers.
