I agree with Karen, there's something off about his face, when you put the three Angels in the same line, this Angel looks taller, but the likeness of mac first season buffy, it's the best. Well in that case, i only gonna pick Fred and Pylea Angel.

Just wanted to put my share in the likeness debate (and respecting the opinion of others of course!):
Actually, I think the new Season Five Angel captues the way David Boreanaz looks by Season 5 of Angel quite well. If you compare a pic of Angel from Season 5 to Season 1 Angel from Buffy, it almost looks like a different person! Similarly, he goes through some quite noticeable changes in between those times as well (we're talking over 8 years with the rigors of an acting career and fatherhood and who knows what else- do you look like you did 8 years ago? I don't, but sure wouldn';t mind if I did! <grin>). Anyway, I think DST has done a fine job of capturing Angel through the progression of his various looks. Of course, I'm going by pics right now - but hopefully I will soon have the new figures to compare to the older ones, though I really never thought the Angel Series 1 Angel looked very much like him. The face was too thin - more like some amalgam of boy band members or something, and a little cross eyed at that. The DST wave is MUCH improved in my opinion, while the Buffy series 1 captures Angel at that time fairly well too.
Now, we know Vamps aren't supposed to age, but they most definitely change (witness the Master, Kakistos, the Prince of Lies, and a couple other examples). So the older a Vamp gets, the more they do change. Angel always says he's like 248 or something like that, but we all know he's really more like 348 (as he reportedly spent around 100 years in a hell dimension between Buffy Season 2 & 3). I think I read there was an explanation for this somewhere, but don't recall it being a series or "canon" explanation, so I've always just figured it was a time saver so he didn't have to explain the disrepancy from the time he was turned and lived versus his true age. Anyway, so, although Angel still looks fairly human- perhaps something to do with his human soul, or perhaps it's even partially to do with the Vamp's own conscious preferences or evem the demon soul that supposedly inhabits them, he still has aged and noticeably at that. Which isn't relly so surprising with the constant threats that he lives under, and losing so many of those dear to him. Heck, that kind of stress has to have an effect even on the undead! :-) Spike even says something along these lines in Season 5. The fact that James Marsters continues to look so similar even in his forties (can you believe I honestly thought he was like inhis mid to late twenties when I first started watching Buffy? I didn't believe it when I read he was in his forties!!!) is much more odd than the normal human pogression with age. What's your secret Jimmy??? Share it with me!!! :-)
And obviously I'm referring to this as an in-universe explanation to account for the real life aging and weight variation of a human actor which is perfectly natural, should anyone feel the urge to say "Dude, it's a freaking TV show." :-)

I agree, this head captures best his look later in the show. MAC's version captures him better from his earlier look. His hair has gotten shorter and his face has filled out some.

I don't think they age, but over time more of the demon in them presents itself. Darla (flashback in Angel season 2?) says something about how the Master has transcended something or other. I don't have the exact quote, but I think it implies that over an extended period of time the demon in them becomes more apparent. Which only accounts for old vampires like the Master and the prince of lies. Aging actors is just a fact we will have to overlook I guess.

I think the Angel looks fine. My favorite Angel is still the very first one from MAC, though. I hope the deluxe version can blow it away.
I'm excited about Fred but she looks like a man. I dont know why, because Illyria looks AMAZINGLY great. But Fred looks like a man. I'll still buy her and all but something went wrong there.
I'll be getting them tomorrow...cant wait!

I have faith in that Fred sculpt and I have a feeling its just a crappy paint job hiding a beautiful sculpt. I'm gonna see what I can do to fix it once I get them

Flobbster you could turn a lump of dog poop into a spectacular figure so there is no doubt that your tweaks to Fred will make her look amazing. Unfortunately, I'd say, the majority of us don't have half the talent you have so ours will continue to look "off".
Please nobody take offense to this. There are other wonderful custom artists on this board. I'm saying a lot of us not all of us.

Great pictures, Karen, thanks! I can’t wait to get my figures! Especially Illyria, who’s head sculpture is one of the best DST’s stuff so far.

Fred definitely looks worse than the prototype. Her neck is too wide and her shoulders too wide and bulky. I agree that she looks like a man. I'm going to get a couple of her for customs. I'll rip that head off, put on new hair and a new body.
Illyria looks wonderful. Shells will easily turn into Fred, though it's ridiculous that they have her in those shoes. Are those supposed to be bedroom slippers or something? Shells really should have been a Shells Fred in heels.
I love the new Angel. I do agree that his skin is too light, but the likeness is excellent. It's ironic that they Buffy Angel is so dark, because on Buffy they put lighter makeup on Angel. Buffy Angel should be the lighter skinned one. Ats Angel should be the darker skinned one. I think the that Mac's Ats Season 1 Angel doesn't look a thing like him. Anything's an improvement over that one.

It's great seeing all of the Angels together! I'm glad that we're finally getting a suitably tall one, and one that is actually pale like he's supposed to be. I'm amazed at his shirt too. Silver stripes! From the early prototype with those huge white stripes, he sure looks slick now. So much improved.
Fred's arms look a little weird, but overall she's pretty good I think. The pics of her face look better than the ones Michael Crawford posted. Even the weird "Shells" base looks pretty nice now in the final version. I love that every variant has a unique base now!

Just judging from the pictures, I still prefer DST's Angel's skintone as opposed to the Latin American Ricky Martin-esque skintone of the original MAC one.

oooooh, now I want these real, real bad.
Fred's cuter than I expected but I still think DST should've gone with the season 5 look because the makeup Amy Acker wore that season really complimented her features as did the hair (which I'm still totally in love with). It's all in the eyes really, if DST would just focus on bringing out some kind of emotion in them with definition, color, or shape then the female characters (and some of the male characters) would look a lot better. I don't think I even need to mention the flaws with the length of the neck either. Still, the figure does capture something of Fred that was always embedded within her even after she became more glamorous. I think I could learn to love that figure...
Shells Illyria is beautiful but, somewhat like Fred, her eyes don't have that insect, cat-like feeling to them and instead are a bit lazier but not so much that it's really distracting (they are still blue afterall). It's a great base for a custom and appears to stand well on it's own too. I was watching the commentary for "Hole in the World" recently and Amy Acker pointed out the ugly shoes she was wearing for safety reasons around the broken beaker props so although that once bothered me I kinda shrug it off and laugh looking at the pictures.
Angel definatley looks much sexier and much more...Angely in his pose this time around. The flailed arms on the previous two figures brought on a look that just didn't translate well. The pose he has now is much more brooding, it looks much more real. His stance has finally been perfected, his hands are finally big like in real life (that always bothered me in the other figures), and his face is finally just right... I can't wait for this figure!!

I think I like the DST versions of Angel alot better. I don;t however care for Fred. i am holding out hope that she looks better in person! He face looks fine (sculpt wise) but I dislke her ahir and outfit. Is it just me or does it look like she has no neck?
All in all though, I will be buying this entire line. Fred is one of my favorite Angelverse characters so I wouldn't even dream of not getting her!

Well I dont have the figures yet but they are out. My local comic shop has them. They had Fred, Angel and Ilyria which I saw and shells illyria they had but was already reserved. Angel was pretty good the outfit is good but there is just somthing off about his face. Fred is just alright it really dosnt look much like her. Illyria's outfit is great and the head sculpt is pretty good to plus she has like 5 or 6 weapons for accessories. I will probably be picking them up from the BCC.

Well, I got Angel season 5, Fred, and Illyria. Illyrie is AWESOME! but, she is way tooooo tall! She is a whole inch taller than spike! Angel looks awesome. He is 10 times better in person! Fred however...She looks worse in person than I could have immagined! She is the first figure from the BuffyVerse that I have ever regretted purchasing. She too is way to tall and her head is TINY! It seems to me that her body is in the 7 inch scale and her head is in the 6 inch scale.
I will post pictures later on tonight!
