Oh that! You know what? The only way to make that visible would be to remove the blue striped gradient and put it back to the dark blue standard.

I think many will agree that the blue gradient should stay. As for the arrows...I know they are hardly visible, but we have the drop down menu with the page numbers to use instead, so it's not too big of a problem. -CMK

I love the layout and colors, I was surprised when I logged in this morning! The only thing I'd change is the banner... if there's a way to put some bluish hues in it to match the rest of the forum, that would rock. Or just add the colors back in, but slightly toned down so that they're no too bright. As for the arrows...I know they are hardly visible, but we have the drop down menu with the page numbers to use instead, so it's not too big of a problem. -CMK Plus you can just hover your mouse over the area to see if the arrow is there. That's what I usually do

Just a quick FYI before I go, I -am- going to be making a banner. I just have to decide on what I want to do. Maybe tomorrow we'll have something

Why aren't we using the banner Insanity made?

Why aren't we using the banner Insanity made? We're not using Insanity's banner because we're going for a specific look, and both Phil and I feel like a banner with multiple figures on it has been done before and can get old kind of fast. Insanity's banner is great...there's not doubt about that. We're just going in a different direction. -CMK

I love the idea of coordinating the styles of both sites. They are both really excellent in their own ways, and maybe bringing some color schemes or banners in line sounds perfect.
I do think they should each retain some individuality though, so we don't have carbon copies. For example, btvsfigs could keep the original smilies! I like them a whole lot better too.
I think its neat that SlayAlive uses them though because of their other colors.

I like the original smilies too. I thought the shocked one was a new smiley with his thumb up!

I'm going to be completely honest...I don't understand why such a small change such as some new more colorful smilies is being taken so badly. BtVSFigs needs some serious adjustments, and even the smallest bit helps. We've had the old smilies for almost four years. Change is good...so I'm trying to implement it in a lot of different ways (the smilies being one of them).
As for not being exactly like SlayAlive - we're not. We are our own forum, but we are now the brother-site to SlayAlive. Siblings share things in common, so it's only normal that the two forums have similar qualities. Having the same smilies isn't making us lose our individuality as a forum.
-CMK
P.S. Are the smilies really what's bothering you, or is it something more? If it is, and you don't feel comfortable posting about it, please PM me. If you do feel comfortable, post it here, and we can discuss it. I don't want you guys supressing your true opinions during the changes being made to the forum. The only way the change will be successful is if we're all truthful about our expectations, wants, and needs when it comes to BtVSFigs.

The older smilies were more defined. I cant tell which smiley means what!?! Thats the only little thing that is bothering me. I can live with the new smileys, I will probably just not use them as often.

I don't want you guys supressing your true opinions during the changes being made to the forum. The only way the change will be successful is if we're all truthful about our expectations, wants, and needs when it comes to BtVSFigs. I think really its just feedback about minor changes. Smilies are a minor point, but we notice the change when we use them and they aren't as "emotive" (if that make sense) as the previous ones. I see that as constructive criticism, and I'm glad to get a response about it. Its just a preference, not a make or break change, but it deserves attention nonetheless. I think the << >> question was a minor point too, but its still something we notice. To me, yes we can use the drop down menu, and I know where they are anyway, so its not functionally limiting, but its looks kind of unprofessional to me. Just my opinion, not a criticism of change. There's not any deeper problems, but its always good to encourage people to voice their opinions (as you've done in this thread). I like the idea of announcements here, like if you decide on more design changes, just say "here you go" or whatever. Or if there are other changes in store, an announcement is like a welcome to the change. I guess its the nature of the beast that people are going to bitch and grouse about every little thing on the internet, but its good to see when people keep a forum moving beyond that.

I'm glad that people are voicing their opinions about the changes being made here. However, I'd like to keep the new smilies for a little longer. Try 'em out...see if you get used to them. I feel that they are a nice addition to the forum, and I'd rather give them time to be accepted than get rid of them so quickly. Also is it possible to get rid of the annoying google ads at the top of the pages? That actually costs money. Not a lot, but money nonetheless. We have a bit in our forum account, so I'll look into getting it done. -CMK

It seems that the ad-free system is run by "credits," and we had enough for the month of June, so BtVSFigs is now ad-free. -CMK
