"I've never been very good at goodbyes."

It sounds corny when you hear it on TV and in movies, but when you're put in the situation of having to say goodbye to a group of people you've come to think of as friends... nothing you come up with seems to be good enough.

The instant connection I've felt with so many people on this forum, the shared passion for a life-changing fantasy universe, the knowledge that we can make a difference if we all stick together. How does one summarize years of experiences?

Since the days on MooreAction.com I've been in awe of the intelligence, sophistication, and sheer determination all of you exhibit. When I had the opportunity to help Tim run our new forum, I was thrilled to be part of something I knew would be able to do some good. I'm not talking about getting toys made... I'm talking about banding together to create an intricate network of news and support that extends into the most private of moments. Whether we were sharing the pain of a loved one passing away, the joy of a new child being born, or the concern for the well-being of Lucky the cat; we did good.

Starting October 1st, I will no longer be serving as Admin for the forum. I leave you in the capable hands of Tim, the brains behind this whole operation from the beginning, and Chad, who's more recently become a valuable asset to this forum. I will still be around behind the scenes for a while in order to transition everything to them, but I will not be able to dedicate the time required to continue as forum Admin. Allow me to explain...

I have accepted a position with Diamond Select Toys and will be moving to Baltimore, Maryland next week. I'll be working specifically on customer service, research, writing, and product development for the Buffy and Angel lines. If you go to a convention where DST has a booth, odds are I'll be there, too.

While you may not see posts from me, rest assured I will continue to visit the forum. If you speak up, I'll hear you. This post has gotten longer than I intended, so I'll wrap it up.

Although we all will miss you so much JD, I'm very happy for you. Is good to know there will be another Buffy fan involved in some aspects of the line (tell DST to make a dawn, glory and more buffys and faiths!!! ) Hope that you'll be able to post some comments from time to time but is good to know that wether or not you post something you will still be around.

Way back when I first heard the news that you were moving on to a position at DST, part of me couldn't believe it. Who thought that this forum would bring you to a job at the very place where our collections begin? Who thought that you'd be able to work yourself up to becoming a part of the company that brings the figures we love to our doorsteps? It blew my mind that such an amazing offer was brought to you.

But on the other hand, part of me found it very believable that you were offered this position. You've been with the forum for so long, and you've worked so hard to see this place grow and expand. You're one of the most hardworking, dedicated people at this forum, and it's no wonder that DST noticed the qualities in you that so many members here have already been aware of (including me).

This forum has grown into such a large enterprise of intelligent and intellectual people who all share some of the same interests. It's a place where all of us can come and sort of escape from the world and enjoy talking about what we love. It's no surprise that you've had a very large influence on this forum. Believe it or not, you've helped make this place what it is today.

I know that this is probably one of the most cliché statements ever, but it's going to be extremely hard to fill your shoes, Matt. Along with Tim, I'm going to do my best to try to continue the work that you've kept going since day one.

Farewell, Matt, and congratulations. I know we'll keep in touch, but BtVSFigs won't be the same without you.

Wow. They couldn't have hired anyone better. Especially for customer service. I've always marveled at how you're always willing to answer questions people post, even if the answer is (usually) posted in several other topics right on the front page. And never with any annoyance, you would set people straight with the correct answer quickly and nicely. You really deserve this great job, and I know your presence will be missed here. Especially when it means that I'll be faced with deciding whether or not to answer people's stupid obvious questions... can I ignore them, or am I obligated to inform them? And if I do, can I resist doing it without a sarcastic remark? This is what I always counted on you for!

Still, it's VERY good to know one of our own is on the inside now. I never felt so good about the future of the Buffy and Angel lines as I do now. You keep fighting the good fight, and we'll be here yammering away about the perfect amount of articulation and such.

It doesn't suprise me at all that your enthusiasm is taking you in this direction. I'm glad that we got a chance to partake in this community which you are partly responsible for, and I'll say that's one thing that made me pick up a username instead of just lurk. Good moderation shows, and its been evident as long as I've been checking up on the news here.

Ah well, I hope you don't retire the EC avatar just yet. Maybe you can come back and post a pic of you in your new office digs here.
