The problem with that is... they might not release one if sales are low... which again... kick in the face to fans. I mean, it took like what? How many years for a Titanic Special Addition?
I wish I knew the person who picked it out... They might have thought a generic image would be much more... "average joe" friendly, rather then images of the cast... Give it a more, spacey look.

You know what... I think this is just another trap to buy the DVD now. And then in a month or so, they will release a 2-disc "special" edition. They did it for Sin City and they do it for alot of movies... I'll wait before buying it now, and see what happends. Or, I'll buy it when it goes on sale, since I hate the cover. The difference is that with Sin City, they were up front that there would be another better release after the theatrical came out on DVD. Rodriguez was saying that even before the first DVD came out. Same with The Lord of the Rings. It was pretty well known that extended editions would come out later. That's why I'm skeptical that there will be a special edition of Serenity any time soon. Although it's one feature short, the Region 1 disc is pretty packed with extras. That and they've given Joss a lot of decision-making power and I don't see him going ahead with any sort of special edition that isn't significantly different.

I did hear about a special edition coming next year, but can't remember where I read it. I'll try and find it.

That and they've given Joss a lot of decision-making power and I don't see him going ahead with any sort of special edition that isn't significantly different. Our version has 5 more special features than the region 1 one: -A Filmmakers Journey - Journey with Joss from Script to Screen (exclusive to Australian DVD) -Joss Whedon Q&A Session - Filmed at Fox Studios in Sydney (exclusive to Australian DVD) -Extended Scenes (exclusive to Australian DVD) -Take a Walk on Serenity - Cast and Crew take us on a special tour of the Serenity ship (exclusive to Australian DVD) -The Green Clan - Expose on Cinematographer Jack Green and his team (exclusive to Australian DVD)

Oh man, unless the UK release gets like, even better features as well as the Aussie ones, I think I'll buy the Australian release.
What Region is the Australian release? I have a multiregional player, but I just wanna know what I'm looking for.

Whoa that is a lot more features! Is there a campaign or anything to get a full special edition for Region 1? Up until this point I thought Universal handled the movie perfectly.

You don't have to worry AA apparently the UK one is gonna get quite a few features as well some exclusive I think. It looks like the US drew the short starw or something.

AA- we're region 4 (and PAL too). It'd probably be no dearer buying it from here (even with the shipping), what with the strong pound.
And abcfan is probably right, a lot of the time the uk and australian versions of dvds are the same.
Belgium, the netherlands and luxembourg are getting the same version as us, so i don't see why all of europe wouldn't be the same too.

I got mine today!!! I can't wait to get off work so I can go home and watch all the special features. I just wish we had more, like the rest of the world, but I am happy that we get it a little sooner. I picked up two extra copies for two of my brothers for Christmas. I got them to watch the series and they loved it...now if I could just get my other brother to watch it, then we would finally all have something in common...besides being brothers.

OH, the inhumanity!!!! Maybe she will get it for you for Christmas. My wife knew that I would not wait for this! I'm the biggest geek with it comes to anything Joss Whedon. She told me the other day that she was bidding on a Stake signed by Joss but descide not to get it and I wanted to cry...I kept my cool though! So Serenity was definatly a day-it-comes-out DVD.
