I just bought a slew of figures - so if you have a last minute entry - have it sent asap, because I have the email to the judges ready to send out.
All entries will be judged without the authors' names on them so that the works not the people, are judged.

I have 3-4 judges who will read and rank their favorites keeping in mind story, plot, creativity, characterization and other traits they may come up with. Your names are not given with the stories. These judges are located from the board, and some not affliated, and there are two girls and two boys.

Lights, Camera, Action! By Wicca
The morning sun beamed lightly on the slowly populating campus as the school buses hissed to a halt and high school girls giggled. Sunnydale High was waking up to another day of excitement, education and wreckage. Principle Snyder had already gave attention to three boys for hitting him on his shiny bald head with a Frisbee and the morning bell had not yet rang. The students laughed and gossiped, unaware of the true darkness their beloved town had to offer.
The young perky Buffy Summers emerged from her moms car, giving a slight wave and a slam of the car door to tell her mom to leave. ’School life and Home life merge here, Leave…now’. Buffy covered her face with her new sunglasses she got from the mall at the weekend and slung her bag on her shoulder as she began to enter the Sunnydale High School grounds. Hearing her mom drive away, dodging a rouge football and trying to swerve away from Cordelia and her beloved followers of spoiled rich girls with unbelievably shiny hair, Buffy had finally caught notice of her two best friends. Willow and Xander sat on the wall next to the double doors entering the main building, both of them caught up in a joke of some sort. Buffy happily approached them, retrieving a lollypop from her bag and began to lick - Sugary Breakfast Good!
“Hey, Buffy!” Willow smiled happily while laughing, her red hair was caught in the bright sun which complimented her yellow checked dress and non-matching green sneakers. “Woo! Buffster!” Xander said, him wearing jeans and a white shirt with yellow smiley faces on it and a contrasting blue t-shirt underneath. “Hey guys”, Buffy replied, hopping up onto the wall next to Willow. “Whatcha’ guys giggling about?” Buffy asked. “Oh, nothing”, Willow said, her face suddenly serious as if lying. “Nothing at all” “No…no, nothing funny here”, Xander added. “We live depressing lives. Lets be depressed together”. Buffy raised her eyebrow. “Movie last night was depressing much?”, Buffy asked raising her sunglasses to the top of her head. Willow and Xander exchanged awkward looks. “Guys, you are allowed to say the movie was fun. Its not your fault that I had to rain check because of unscheduled slaying. Plus, I have tonight free. Bronze?” “Or Movie!” Xander’s face lit up. Buffy smiled back. “The movie was that good? Funny, I heard the new Adam Sandler flick was awfully overrated” Buffy said. “But- but when he plays out the conversation between the Shampoo and Conditioner bottles - and” Willow started but she and Xander where quickly stuck in a fit of laughter again, leaving Buffy watching awkwardly. “And- and the Swan!”, Xander erupted from the laughter which left Willow in stitches. Meanwhile Buffy sat in confusion, after a few hilarious moments her friends noticed this and turned their attention back to her. “Ok, maybe that was a little over the top, but hey, patrol last night. Did Angel show?” Willow said.
“Absolutely, certainly…no”, Buffy replied. “God, I even held back for an hour just on the off-chance that he might wander past and I could do the whole ‘Oh, what a coincidence’ speech that never works” Buffy slumped. Xander had now been stuck with the awkward position as he had yet to express his true feelings for Buffy, in the meantime he sat quiet during the ‘Girl Talk‘. “Hey, maybe we can invite Angel to the movies tonight?” Willow suggested. Xander almost choked on air as a response, but Buffy and Willow didn’t hear. “The only time I see Angel he is brooding in the shadows. My perfect idea of a date with him doesn’t involve putting him in a dark room so he can…brood” Buffy explained. Willow nodded with understanding. Suddenly the bell rang, the students where rushed from their social groups to their first class.
Buffy slipped through the Library double doors and headed towards the long counter at her right. Swiping her hand across the white counter surface Buffy approached the middle-aged Watcher himself as he done some sort of work by checking the labels on the books around him. “Oh, hello Buffy”, he welcomed barely looking up at his Slayer. “How was your night?” “A bust. I was diverted by some unscheduled slayage” Buffy replied as she hopped up onto the counter. “Vampires?” Giles asked sharply. “Three, in the cemetery” Buffy replied bored. “The Three, they have returned?” Giles asked frightened, almost excited at the same time. “Overreaction much?”, Buffy smiled. “No, just three random vamps”. Giles settled, going back to his work casually. “Boy, you really are desperate for Stir in the Supernatural” Buffy commented. “Well, thing have been…quiet since that incident at the Talent Show a few weeks ago. Must keep an eye out for danger”, Giles responded, then suddenly stopped what he was doing. “Don’t you have a class just now?” “Biology - yawn. So I thought of nothing better to fill you in and possibly cram some training so I have tonight free” Buffy suggested. “Oh, that is not necessary. However you could help me re-catalogue the Library with your free time” Giles said as he slowly disappeared into the darkness of the stacks of the library. Buffy rolled her eyes and sighed. “Should’ve gone to Biology” Buffy groaned as she slipped off the counter unenthusiastically and followed Giles into the stacks.
It was finally lunch time in Sunnydale High. After two hours of slaving in the library Buffy emerged into the light of the quad where the students gathered. Buffy strolled over to Willow and Xander who sat on a nearby bench. “Hey, Buff. I missed you in Bio, I had to suffer alone squishing un-hatched Praying Mantis eggs that Miss French left behind. Wasn’t so easy explaining to the new teacher what I was doing under my desk and I am pretty sure my reputation is way into those negative points now. So how was your morning of slacking off?” Xander asked. “Cheery, Giles had to doing stuff with the books. I wasn’t sure what I was doing but I am definitely needing a new manicure after that torment” Buffy replied.
“I was totally petrified to my seat the whole time. Honestly, I have never been so frightened in my life! Actually, the movie itself wasn’t that scary but, I dunno. Something was way spooky about it anyway”, Cordelia chatted to her five ‘Cordets’ lined up behind her. Buffy, Xander and Willow listened in as she passed. “Aww, Cordy get scared by something?” Xander mocked, he loved any reason to get on Cordelias nerves. “Like you wouldn’t have, Oh-Give-Me-Some-Zit-Cream Harris”, Cordelia shot back at him. “Actually you should think about going to see the new horror movie at the Sun, there are tones of frightened women desperate for a young dweeb to cower behind. You actually might find that dweeb boyfriend you always been looking for” Cordelia got the last word as she walked on, her followers giggling behind her. Xander was lost for words, thinking hard and fast for a comeback before it was too late, but the moment was long gone. “Check back tomorrow, I’ll have that devastating comeback for you!”, Xander shouted at Cordelia but she showed no response as she left the quad. “So, new horror movie at the Sun tonight. Who’s in?” Xander suddenly turned back to Buffy and Willow who exchanged looks.
As night fell, people began to enter the Sun Cinema. Amongst the crowd Buffy, Willow and Xander choose a movie to see. A Romantic (like Buffy needed that with her love-life on hiatus), a Comedy (and never hear the end of it from Willow and Xander - no) and the Horror (rolls eyes). The decision was quickly made by Xander, horror movie it was. Willow seemed uncertain as they bought their tickets but Xander was excited, ready to prove Cordelia wrong that it was not as scary as it was made out to be. Buffy thought with a title like ‘The House at the Top of the Hill’, it sounded more like a child’s fairy tale where a gingerbread man or a large bean stalk would be involved. But as they took their seats, the lights dimmed and the projector started the movie seemed far away from a fairy tale. Eerie orchestrated music played as the screen showed an old creepy house over towering a small village. Thunder crumbled and lightning flashed in the landscape. Flashes of ghostly faces appeared in the old windows as the story unfolded. A small group of friends entered the old house, hoping for a telephone to call a service to fix their broken down car outside. The house had a mind of its own, the front door slamming shut, locking the group of lost friends inside the haunted manor.
All the while during the movie, Buffy slowly felt as if the production was becoming more and more lifelike. The creaking of floorboards and haunted whispers sounded more and more realistic. Buffy found herself looking at the people around her in panic, the Slayer was becoming scared. Images from the screen seemed burned onto Buffy’s mind, she couldn’t shake them off. Buffy looked to her friends, there faces lit by the glow of the screen. Willow was watching the movie through the spaces of her fingers as she covered her face. Xander sat glued to the screen, occasionally shovelling popcorn into his mouth.
Suddenly Buffy felt a sense of dizziness, the screen became all Buffy could focus on. Buffy’s instincts made her grip to her arm rests, she felt like if she let go she would fall, but her feet where firm on the floor. The film was now growing larger, expanding beyond the screens limits. In the movie, one of the girls was alone as she slowly stepped up a staircase, her eyes fixed on an ajar door that spilled out yellow light. The sounds of children play echoed from the other side of the door. The actress was early-twenties, wearing a revealing top and ripped jeans. Buffy could feel herself walking up the stairs, looking at the door, feeling the coldness of the house creep up her arms. The comfort and warmth from Buffy’s seat was suddenly gone, the expanding film had over powered the cinema hall and all was light as the actress opened the ajar door.
Buffy collapsed onto the cold dirty landing of the stairs. The Slayer opened her eyes weakly as they adjusted to her surroundings. Buffy’s blurred vision made out a young woman entered a room lit with a yellow glow from the rooms lamps. As Buffy’s sight sharpened she was suddenly aware she wasn’t in the cinema hall anymore. “Will,…Xander” Buffy said quietly as she sat herself up from the cold wooden floor, but her friends where no where to be seen. She was alone on the stairs landing, not sign of the cinema, just the door in front of her. At the other side of the door, the sound of laughing children seized, and a scream from the actress filled Buffy’s ears.
The hall filled with frightened guests jumped and gasped as they watched the female being killed brutally in the yellow lit room. Willow had retreated to Xander’s shoulder, hiding her eyes from the terrifying images of her body and her ghostly attackers but the sound could not be hid from. “Oh god…oh god. Xander how can you stand it?” Willow said muffled against Xander’s shirt. “I’m a man, I can take anything” Xander said, as he had his hand over his face just as frightened as Willow. As the jumpy music stopped, Willow found it safe to look again. Willow now relaxed slightly as a new scene began, the redhead glanced to the seat beside her to share a look with Buffy. Willow gasped as she saw the seat was empty, Buffy had disappeared. “Did Buffy go to the bathroom?” Willow whispered to Xander, he shrugged with his eyes now glued to the screen again. Willow looked again to the empty seat confused. Xander was pulled by the shirt by Willow who was now making her way to the nearest exit. Xander followed, his eyes still attached to the movie as he tripped over peoples feet and spilled popcorn over the other viewers. Xander suddenly saw someone on the screen, someone who shouldn’t have been there. Buffy. Like a shimmering apparition in the background of the scene. No one else in the cinema noticed, none of the characters in the movie noticed, but Buffy was in the movie, her face scared, pleading for help from the characters who could not respond to her.
Willow and Xander met in the cinema lobby, it was bright and smelled deliciously of warm popcorn. The red carpets and luxurious surroundings was one of the biggest attractions to the Sun Cinema. Willow looked at Xander worried, Xander looked back shocked. “Where is Buffy?” Willow asked panicky. “Eh, I think… I think Buffy, is in the movie” Xander announced to his friend. Willow’s jaw dropped. “No way!”, Willow replied in shock. “But how? Are you sure? But how?” “Wow, stop asking the dumb guy the questions”, Xander said holding his hands up. “We better get to Giles”. Xander and Willow left the cinema urgently.
Dark was the haunted house, smelled dusty and ancient. Only source of light was the pale blue moon outside and the occasional lamp flicker or candle. The four remaining cast members met in the old rusty kitchen of the abandoned house. ‘We are trapped here, Lucy and Mark are already dead, and those things are picking us off one by one’, said the leading role, a all man with beautiful features and a goatee beard. The other cast members looked at each other frightened. ‘The faces in the reflections, the mirrors, the windows. Sounds of children playing upstairs, the shadows that follow our steps. Ghosts are keeping us locked in this house’.
At the doorway, Buffy watched the cast members act out there scene. They couldn’t see her, they couldn’t hear her, they where merely following a script, unable to do anything beside act out their scenes over and over again. Buffy knew nothing of why she was in this place, or how. Was she in danger from the ghosts in the movie? Could the others in the cinema see her on the screen? All Buffy knew was that she couldn’t find any sign of a way back to the real world.
Buffy watched the cast, how they reacted, how they spoke there lines. Buffy couldn’t imagine a life of a fictional character, having to relive the same sequence of events for eternity. On the bright side Buffy had the best seat in the action of the movie - she was living it. The eerie instrumental music could even be heard in her mind as the characters performed their scenes. As Buffy watched the group of actors split into two groups to find a way out, she heard a whisper around her. It was one of the ghostly sound effects used throughout the movie, to tell the evil spirits where close. “Hey! There goes those whispers again! I guess it means one of you guys will be acting out a death scene soon!”, Buffy shouted at the actors, but they showed no reaction apart from act out their written performance. “What is the point of me being trapped in a movie if I cant intervene! Can none of you see me?” Buffy shouted frustrated. In a cold chill, the surrounding whispers replied. ‘We can see you’. Buffy looked behind her. Buffy’s heart jolted as three ghostly figures stood starring at her. A man, long tangled back hair framing his severely scarred face, wearing a grey junk suit holding a rusty pitch fork. An elderly woman, dressed in poor Victorian clothes, her eyes bleeding down her grey face. And a child, her face hidden behind a mass of messy blonde hair, gripping a worn out bear, her battered and bruised legs sticking out the bottom of her ripped blood soaked dress. Buffy gasped, balling her fists and standing in her battle stance ready to fight. In a flash he three ghostly figures where gone.
“Giles!” Willow and Xander bellowed as they rushed into the library, and there was the Watcher - sitting drinking his tea while finishing off his work. No surprise it being nine o’clock at night and all. Rupert instantly removed his glasses, ready to absorb the information like he had been preparing for some awful catastrophe to keep him busy. “Buffy is trapped in a movie!” Willow explained. “Oh,” ,Giles replied sounding so very English but not surprised or shocked in any way. “Can you explain how Buffy got herself into such a situation?” “We where watching that new horror movie at the Sun, and suddenly she was gone - an empty seat” said Willow. “Then I saw her, on the movie screen like some fuzzy, misty projection thingy” Xander added. “So, explanation. Please?” “Ah, well…”, Giles began as he quickly put back on his glasses and started to move around the library, grabbing selected books off the shelves. “films and television is just a manipulation in our brains of many images moving at a fast speed. Thus creating the illusion of movement. There are tales of mystical curses of pieces of artwork - paintings, sculptures and so on. What was the specific point in the film when you noticed Buffy had vanished?” “It was just after the part when that girl went up into the attic bedroom, I think” Willow said. “Perhaps, there was a certain image in that scene that cursed Buffy into the film itself” Giles told.
“I doubt it”, the group heard a new voice. The three of them spun around to see the tall handsome Angel standing there, dressed in a long black overcoat and dark blue shirt. “There has been word on the streets, that there is a new warlock in town. A master of magic, feeding life force from his victims around the downtown area.” Angel said as Giles, Willow and Xander listened. “He is feeding off his victims by placing them in a fictional world of film?” asked Giles. Angel nodded. “Then that’s that. We march back to cinema and beat this warlocks ass” Xander said. “You are way out of your league, kid”, Angel said. “The warlock will crumble you with a flick of his wrist. You guys need Buffy to kill him” “Oh!” Willow sprung, as if a light bulb just flicked on in her head. “I saw a spell in one of the books on Witchcraft in the restricted section., something about bringing forth what has been lost. Would this help get Buffy back?”. Giles took a moment to think. “Perhaps. However I don’t know if the spell will work between different realities, but we have no other plan. So I suggest we head out, Willow if you could collect the spell book” Giles said as he put on his tweed jacket and set out to leave.
The darkness surrounded Buffy as she walked the hallways of the house, she had been separated from the cast members but didn’t care too much - she didn’t have to protect people who would end up dying in the script anyway. Strangely Buffy felt a sudden sense of claustrophobia, like the walls where slowly sinking inwards and the hallways grew longer. Always the flickering wall lights, and tremors of the ghostly whispers. Buffy in a panic began pushing and punching the closest window, but it wouldn’t budge.
Buffy gave up, retreating against the wall where she tried not to sob. Buffy moved away from the wall as she felt it move slightly - the house didn’t want her to stay in the same place. Suddenly Buffy heard approaching footsteps, creaking on the old wood floor.
Buffy turned around to see the little ghost girl, slowly walking down the all towards her with tiny baby steps, dragging her bear along the ground. Her messy hair shroud her face. The Slayer backed up, slowly edging away from the upcoming child. ‘Maggie, will you come play with me?’. Buffy squinted in confusion, she felt an urge to correct the ghost that her name was Buffy. Then Buffy noticed someone else standing behind her, a female cast member with her face filled with fear. Maggie’s lips trembled and she was glued to the spot petrified. Buffy stepped back to the wall again, standing between the actress and child. Buffy watched as the girl dropped her bear, reached over and grab Maggie’s arm. Maggie screamed, as if the child’s touch was burning. Buffy leant further against the wall, watching this happen in front of her. The girl’s head raised beneath her locks of dirty tangled hair, her eyes met Maggie’s. Tears streamed down Buffy’s eyes. Maggie’s skin began to crack as the girls terrifying eyes burned right into her soul. Buffy closed her eyes as Maggie’s screams became deafening, when the screaming stopped both the girl and Maggie where gone.
In a sudden flash Buffy saw a way. In the midst of all the darkness, a spiral of light flooded inward at the end of the hall. Buffy got to her feet and cautiously eased towards it. ‘Buffy! Buffy can you hear us!’. It was Willows voice, echoing through the house like a dream. Buffy walked towards the portal, through the brightness Buffy glimpsed the faces of her friends…and Angel. Buffy looked behind her down the hallway as the three ghosts stared back at her, not threatening. It was then Buffy understood, they where following a script for eternity as well - it was not their choice to live this way, never to go beyond the rules of the movie. Buffy looked back to the light, and leaped.
In the scared cinema, the crowd still fearfully watched the remainder of the movie totally unaware. Xander, Willow, Giles and Angel stood out of sight in the hall. The Watcher silently chanted from a book, sending slight shimmers of light on the movie screen. All flickered black for a moment, seemed like a small fault in the film being projected. The movie returned to normal and Giles and the others stood looking around, wondering if the spell worked.
“Guys” they heard, Buffy stepped up off the ground. “Buffy!” Willow said loudly, almost too loudly cause an wave of ‘Shhh’ throughout the cinema. “Glad to see you too, Will”, Buffy whispered back. “How is the movie?” Buffy joked. Xander and Willow smiled. Buffy’s gaze was suddenly fixed on Angel, as his eyes where also fixed on her, Giles however urged them all out of the cinema hall.
The cinema foyer was still quite busy, but Giles had something to say. “Buffy, there is still a warlock to fight” Giles said plainly. “Yeah, figured there was some evil mojo involved. What am I fighting?” Buffy asked. “Warlock goes by the name Se’irim”, Angel answered. “He’s Hebrew, its always the same curse he puts on his victims. Finds a crowded performance, casts his victim into a fictional world, the other viewers fear slowly kills the person trapped in the fiction, Se’irim feeds off that fear. You will need to destroy his power centre to kill him” he explained. “Well I wasn’t scared during that movie, so your dying from others peoples fear had nothing to do with me” Xander added, Willow throwing him a childish look. “Ok, so where is this ‘Seraph’ guy?” asked Buffy, but from the clueless looks on all of their faces but knew it wouldn’t be easy finding the warlock. “Maybe we don’t have to find him, what if we just stop the movie. That might scrunch him, right?” Willow suggested. “I guess its better than nothing”, Giles nodded. “The projector room”

The five of them slipped through a ‘Staff Only’ door in the cinema foyer, luckily they where unnoticed. As they rushed up a concrete set of stairs, Giles read the wall signs leading to the projector room for the screen showing ‘The House at the Top of the Hill’. After searching through hallways they finally found the correct projector room. Buffy halted at the door. “Ok guys, me and Angel will go in. You keep guard, make sure no one try’s to get in”. Xander, Willow and Giles stood their ground outside the door as Buffy and Angel entered.
The cramped office-like room was like a maze of piled up reels of film, each carefully labelled. There was also a desk, and large squashy seat, a coffee machine and the running projector itself facing out a small square in the wall - but no sign of the projectionist. “Right, so how do we stop the movie”, Angel approached the machine looking for an off button. “I think hitting it very hard is the easiest option” Buffy answered. “Oh, right” Angel said as he rose his fists prepared to crush the projector. His fists never hit the machine as a burst of magical energy was shot at him. “Angel!” Buffy screamed in shock as Angel crashed into a pile of films. Out of the shadows emerged the projectionist, an old man in a shirt and tie wearing a grey cardigan. Buffy was drawn to the abnormality of his huge black eyes, he was the warlock Se’irim. Buffy charged at the old man, ready to jump into a kick. The blue sparks of magic from his fingertips shot Buffy away in the opposite direction, she crashed into another pile of film rolls. “Aoww, that was my favourite spine!” Buffy said in pain as she struggled under the pile of broken film reels, coils of shiny film tape falling around her.
Angel got to his feet, his face now morphed into his vampire state. The warlock spun around to strike the vampire again, but Angel quickly got a lucky punch in before he was blasted away. The old man, with hunched back approached the weak vampire to finish him off. The old man, gasped as he arm was grabbed by a powerful grip. He looked at his attacker, the Slayer herself. “Sorry, grampa. This show may be unsuitable to some viewers” Buffy said before throwing him backwards against the desk. The old mans eyes filled with rage and power tried to direct his hands at Buffy, but she pinned him down on the desk. “All those poor souls you have trapped in that movie, I’m thinking they are just cringing at the position you are in right now” Buffy said before freeing on hr hands to punch him unconscious.
Angel had gotten back up his feet, and stumbled back over to the running projector. Buffy joined him, his face now back to human form nodded to her. Buffy rose a leg to kick the projector. The warlocks black eyes shot open, he instantly sat upright with hands out stretched. With a hateful yell he shot out another wave of blue magical energy, powerful enough to kill the Slayer. As the energy swam rapidly towards her, Buffy knocked the projector into the crossfire. As the energy crashed and absorbed the machine, the warlock screamed loudly in pain. Angel grabbed Buffy back as they watched the projector and the warlock begin to crumble. Buffy saw the rolling film burn with a painful squeaking sound, and then saw Se’irim burn rapidly until nothing was left.
All was silence, Buffy looked up at Angel as the room swam with smoke and ash. “Roll credits” Angel muttered, Buffy smiled up at him as they walked away hand in hand.

Attempting Sanity by A Dusty Pile X
Summary: In the first season, Buffy suffered from a clinical death, where the heart stops beating, but there is still brain activity. What went through Buffy’s head during those few moments of death? What empowered and motivated her to finally kill the Master?
ATTEMPTING SANITY
Chapter One
Sleep. Or pretend to sleep. Either way, it was working.
Buffy was the cheese on a grilled cheese sandwich, and her mattress being the bread. All her melt-y goodness was eagle spread style. One hand had hidden itself under her pillow, supporting her head. It had probably gone asleep, which was an inconvenience. Her eyes were twisted shut so hard that her brow furrowed in an awkward position. She had been waiting three hours for the lights to go out. There was a strict nine o’clock lights out, but tonight the hall lights remained on. She faintly heard the breathing of her roommate, who could sleep through an earthquake and wake up not knowing where she was. She used this time of faux-sleeping to count the tiny whiffs her roommates nose made when she breathed in.
Seven thousand and sixty-two… seven thousand and sixty-four… seven thousand and sixty-six…
Wait; shit… sixty-five… now sixty-six, or is it sixty-seven? Dammit.
She sat up in her bed and looked around the room. A few shelves, two feet high, bolted to the ground, a window, which was barred off and had a thick layer of plastic protecting the fragile glass. Underneath the window was a radiator, which was supposed to emit heat. It didn’t. It only let out soft rumblings every now and then. Buffy assumed it was rats. Maybe she could make friends. There were two twin-sized beds, separated by two bedside tables. There were no lamps, and the lights were far up in the ceiling so no one could jump up and break them, or, you know, get electrocuted. But, hey, what a way to go. Deep-fried, crispy on the outside, soft and gooey in the inside.
Wow, she was spending a bit too much time here. She must be going insane. No more thinking about the gooey, soft center of people. She huffed out a sigh and opened her eyes. There was no use pretending. She just wasn’t sleepy. But she did have to pee.
She stood up, her white baggy pajama pants swooshed underneath her. Her feet were cold, and the last remains of her nail polish weren’t exactly a pretty sight. She suddenly wished for socks, or slippers. As if on command, she spotted a pair of bunny slippers. A smile split her face as she slipped into them. They used to make little bunny noises when she walked, but she hadn’t replaced the batteries in three years. Buffy exited her room and looked down the hall. The lights gave off an eerie green-yellow washed look to the halls. One flickered above her and burnt out.
Lovely, she thought as she trotted down the hall. She passed many rooms. All doorless. You could do bad things behind closed doors, but with everything open, it was free game. She turned a swift corner and spotted the bathroom monitor.
“I have to pee.” Her voice almost shocked herself. It was low, cold, and raspy. The young girl who sat there flipped the page of her Cosmo and pointed at a sign. Buffy looked over, squinted, and read; “Level-one patients have two minutes in the lavatory.” She blinked. Was she level one? The girl grunted and threw back, her thumb at the bathroom door. The sixteen year old shrugged and entered. She didn’t bother to look around the cold, echo-y bathroom. She went straight to the second to last stall and relieved herself. She looked for the flush but only saw a button. She pressed it and the water swirled beneath her. When fully clothed, she sat back down on the toilet and stared at her bunny slippers. They stared back up at her. Three painfully blue eyes. Only three, the left eye on the right slipper had fallen off. She reached down and ripped off the left eye from the left slipper. She pocketed it and left the stall.
She looked at herself in the mirror in front of her and wasn’t pleased with what she saw. Her eyes appeared to be sunken in, and hallow. Traces of old makeup smeared from her eyes and face. Her hair, tattered, greasy and in tangles, looked as if it was on its last leg. It looked reasonably darker. She had only ever lightened her hair once before, but it had always retained its natural golden color. She ran her fingers through it, examining her scalp. Her hair had been dyed brown, and badly so. She looked up, expecting to see someone staring at her.
But no one was there.
She suddenly felt a sharp pain to the head. Her forehead hit the sink, specifically the tab to turn the hot water on. As she snapped back, she reeled her head around to face a man. Large, ugly, and probably dumb. She was grabbed her by the hair and smashed her face to the tiled floor. Slowly and steady, the spaces between the white tiles turned red. Blood. It was blood. Her blood. She tried to focus her eyes, but they refused. Buffy was becoming increasingly queasy as she forced her eyes open. She let out the breath she had been holding in, and it felt like fire.
She slipped into darkness.
Chapter Two
It felt like seconds before a hard hand raked itself across her cheek. It wasn’t exactly the best way to wake someone up who had been knocked out. She rolled on her side, only to be met in the face with a boot. Why, hello there Buffyface, I’m Big Boot. Please, let me crush you. And Big Boot did just that: crush Buffyface. Buffy pulled out from under the boot. Her cheek screamed with agony as she ripped herself away, the rubber sliding across its already sensitive exterior. She winced and looked up, only to be met with the face of a savage beast.
“Hello, dear,” The Master chided, a smirk playing on his face. He squatted next to her, looking her straight in the eye. “Now, why don’t you tell me how you got out of here? I don’t want to have to hurt you.” He thought for a moment. “No, that would be a lie. I do want to hurt you. I would like to hurt you very much. Note: I am using restraint.”
“G-get out of here? What do you mean?” Buffy asked, clutching her cheek. Even with healing powers, it would take a good long four minutes for the burn to go away. She looked around her surroundings. Nothing. It was as if she was in a void. A cot in the corner, piled with fresh blankets, a toilet, a sink, a few crates that held a change of clothes. That was it. “What is this place?” She wondered aloud. She met the Master’s gaze.
“Why, my dear, it’s your home.” He stroked her face with one of his taloned fingers. He added a bit of pressure as he slid down her jaw line. The blonde craned her neck, stressing her muscles. “Now, now, no need to tense. I’m not going to kill you. I just want to know…” He added a bit of strain to his voice. “… How you escaped.”
“I-I didn’t. I woke up in a bed. I thought I was back in…”
“You woke up in another bed? Impossible. You are in the maximum security ward,” he paused. “Someone let you out. Didn’t they?” He grabbed at her arm, and pulled her to her feet as if she was a doll. “Who, my child, who let you out?” He shook her hard, causing her head to rattle. Her mouth was agape. She couldn’t say anything. “Heads will roll. For this, no meals today. I know what hunger does to Slayers.” He smiled at her, baring his fangs. “Sweet dreams, dear.” He shut her door.
“What did I do?” Buffy blinked back tears. She hadn’t moved since the Master had left. She didn’t know what to do. What had happened? She tried to recollect her thoughts.
She went off to kill the Master and… that was it. It was the Spring Fling, Giles told Angel that she was going to die, Ms. Calendar said the world the ending, her mother had given her a nice dress; she quit, and came back to Slaying. Then everything went blank. She remembered talking to the Master and then… nothing. She woke up in that bed, went to go pee, and woke up to the Master’s face. She obviously wasn’t dead. But what happened? How did she get from Point A to Point Hell? Her head hurt. Probably from hitting it on the tab and being crushed under Ugly-Face’s boot. What an ass.
“Willow… Giles… Xander… Angel! … Mom…” They were all going to die if she didn’t get out. The Master was going to win. She got up and ran to the door, pounding on it. “Let me out! You have to let me out! Please!”
No one answered. She tried to break the door down. It wouldn’t budge.
She sat down again, huddled against the wall. She brought her legs up to her chest and clutched them, crying into her knees. It wasn’t supposed to be like this. She was supposed to normal again after she left L.A. Everything was supposed to be better now. Why was it ending up just like everything else? Because she was the Slayer? She didn’t want it anymore! She never did! It took everything away from her. Her reputation, her family, her home, her school, her friends, Pike… everything. What did she do to deserve this? To have this curse laid about her. She was a good person! She always had been, a bit empty headed before, but she was a good person. Life hated her. Plain and simple. She was destined to live alone, and be a cat lady. Great, just like great Aunt Eileen, she thought as she leaned her head against the wall.
She looked up when she heard her door opening. The Master entered. “Chain her,” he clipped to his vamp-servants. He looked over at Buffy. “Now, no funny business young lady.” Two male vampires entered the chambers, carrying long, thick shackles. They were quickly clamped on her wrists. Buffy tested their weight and looked back up at the Master.
“Why are you doing this? Why can’t you just kill me? It would be easier for you…” tears were piling down her face, dropping onto her nightgown. “Please… please…” Begging. This wasn’t her. Who taught her to beg? Don’t beg for anything, not even your life. Or death. Did people actually beg for their death? Maybe those who were suicidal, or have some terminal illness.
The Master stared at her. She could see him even though her head was down. It wasn’t pity on his face, of course it wasn’t pity. It was confusion. The vampire quickly skewed his face up again. “Another would rise, my dear,” his voice was hallow. More hallow than that it normally was. He noticed that she knew, and quickly changed his tone. “I just want to break you, Buffy.” He stroked her face, almost tenderly.
“Break me?”
The Master smiled as stood up straight. “Bring them in.” Five vampire lackeys entered, in each of their clutches were five shadowed figures. It took Buffy only a moment to see who they were. Her eyes scanned along them lingering on each one. Her mother, Giles, Xander, and Willow. “Say what you will.” The first vampire pushed Joyce forward. She was a mess. Her hair was ragged and matted, dirty was how Buffy would describe her mother’s appearance. She noted that her mother’s hair had thinned extensively. Joyce kept her head high. She looked straight at the Master.
“You monster. Killing a mother in front of her daughter. Coward.” The woman was choking on her tears. Buffy looked at her mother, watching her tears streak down her face. The Master grinned. His teeth were just as filthy as she remembered. Why couldn’t vampires just brush their fangs? Sure, the whole without reflection, but that just didn’t excuse poor hygiene!
“I am a monster aren’t I?”
Joyce looked at her daughter for the first time. Her eyes were different. They weren’t the cheerful, pleasant, round orbs they used to me. Gray, and dead. Just like the walls. Just like everything in building. Gray and dead. “Kill this bastard, Buffy. Kill him.” Her throat was promptly ripped out. Buffy crumpled onto herself, clutching at her head and body. She couldn’t think, couldn’t breathe. Her heart stopped. Her mother was dead. Killed, right in front of her. Why hadn’t the anger surged? It was suppose to surge! It was just pain inside. Dripping down her body like cold water. Filling in the holes and gaps. Giles’ voice broke through her sobs.
“I-I understand why you did what you did, Buffy. I wanted to apologize f-for pushing you so hard. You were everything and more what I wanted in for a Slayer.” Giles wasn’t any better than Joyce. He was a broken man. Buffy could see that. He had given up. He had given up on his Slayer.
“Giles… no… I’m sorry I—I” Buffy never finished. She couldn’t talk to Giles anymore. He was all over the floor.
“Stay alive, Buffy. Take him down.” Xander’s voice filled her head. The Slayer raised her head. She couldn’t not look; she had to see him one last time. His voice became almost a whisper. “I understand why you didn’t want to dance.” He didn’t scream as the vampire dug into him. Buffy looked over at Willow. She looked so small. Her head was down, as if she was looking at her feet. Her red hair fashioned a dirty curtain in front of her face. Buffy tried to reach out for her.
“Oh… god, Willow. God willow. I’m sorry… I’m so sorry.”
Willow didn’t look up. Her voice had no emotion. “I know.”
Dead. All dead. Their bodies lay before her. Their deaths were her fault. She knew it, it had to be her fault. She didn’t even try break free. She failed. Te Master looked down t her, cocking his head. He smiled and stroked her head. “Sleep, child. When you wake, everything will be different.” She tried to keep her eyes open. Begging didn’t work on eyelids. They promptly shut and didn’t open, as if they were locked shut. Her brain switched off as darkness pooled around her. She slept the sleeps of sleep. Dreamless. Just how she liked sleep. When there were no dreams to nag at her. No prophetic dreams to keep her up. It felt like seconds before she woke.
Chapter Three
“Buffy?” A voice broke. She didn’t open her eyes. She knew the voice. A smile cracked her face. It was Willow… she hoped it was.
“Will?” No one answered. The room was darker than it had been. Deep, dank and dark. But everything had become quiet at that moment. Even the sink had stopped dripping. Try and break the silence. “Willow? Is… is that you?”
“Yeah. I-I think.” Her voice was Willow! Or… Willow-like. But it was Willow all the same. Buffy tried to move but she realized she was still bound by the chains. She didn’t bother to struggle to get out. Willow could do something. Willow knew things… she was smart. Maybe with all her computing she learned something about shackles. That was a small chance, Willow didn’t seem like the one to check out “shackles” on the Internet. She’d only get bondage and s&m sites.
“Oh god, Willow. This is such a mess. I—I” She stopped. Buffy racked her brain for a solution. None came. It couldn’t be true. It just couldn’t. “How did you… oh no. Willow. Not you.”
Willow’s smile broke the darkness. “I feel better, Buffy. Strong. Like you.”
“Willow… we—we can do something. Get you a soul! Or something… Angel would know…” Angel… where was Angel? Willow granted her wish with a laugh. A single hallow, UnWillow laugh.
“Angel? Do you know what they did to Angel?” Buffy shook her head. She couldn’t look into UnWillow’s face. “Put him in the stocks.” She looked up.
“The… stocks?”
“The Master likes to be… old-fashioned. They put him in a room, and each day the sun got a little closer to him. It was a week before he died. Went up like a wisp,” UnWillow’s muscles rippled. “I thought his soul would save him. I was wrong. Xander was glad tough.” UnWillow saw the confused look on Buffy’s face. “He didn’t have to compete anymore. He thought he would have you all to himself. But you couldn’t do that for him could you?” UnWillow came into the light… or what little light filtered in from some unnamed source. Her hand racked across Buffy’s face. “As much as I wanted him, I just wanted to see him happy. Just once since you put us here.”
“What? I didn’t… how could I?”
“You gave up. You surrendered Sunnydale to him. He took over. Built this, and he keeps us here,” she looked up at Buffy. “We’re harvested here. They take blood from us every day. Vile full, by vile full. They couldn’t kill us, because they need us. If they killed us, there would be no one left for them to eat. They would have to expand, and go to other cities. He says it’s too much trouble. He’d r-rather keep us until we die, and use o-our daily supply of blood. They’re rationing. Preserving our blood, and e-eating what they’re allowed. They keep us healthy, and… trim—damn you. You bring out the old Willow in me.” UnWillow’s arm shook as she restrained herself from smacking Buffy again. Buffy noticed that Willow had scars around her bare forearms. The tiniest scars, but scars all and all. She also noted long, thin scars melded with the tiny needle marks. Willow looked at Buffy and quickly unraveled her sleeves so her forearms were covered. “We all deal with it differently. Or did. I really don’t have to deal with it anymore. I’m the higher class.”
“I—I thought I was back…”
“What?” Willow was obviously curious. She tilted her head to the side and peered at Buffy. It wasn’t vampire like, but she had time to kill. A good story could lighten the mood. A show before dinner.
“Back at the Institution. I woke up here and I was in the bed… the exact same bed. I---“
“Why were you there?” Willow cut in. She quickly corrected herself, “At the institution.”
Buffy didn’t look at UnWillow. She couldn’t. She just looked at her grubby knees. “After I burned down my school’s gym, I went away for awhile. I was stupid enough to leave my diary out in the open.” She saw a hint of humanity flash over Willow’s face. It quickly disappeared.
“What? Joyce found poems of suicide and you slitting your wrists?” UnWillow grinned. “Sad.”
“Vampires,” Buffy broke in, her voice carrying only above a whisper. “I wrote about vampires and being the slayer. I went away… and when I came back, they sent me away. The same damn night…” she clenched her fists as a tear slid down her cheek. It felt like fire. Willow bent over Buffy, stroking her neck.
“Nice welcome home present. Well, Dove, you won’t have to worry about that much longer…” UnWillow’s faced changed as she slid closer to Buffy’s jugular vein. Buffy felt the vampire’s cold breath on her. She was too new at the game not to breathe. It was instinct for her.
“You can’t kill me.”
“I beg to differ—”
Buffy finally looked up. She looked strong. She was strong. “I’m too important. To Him. The Master.”
“What he doesn’t know won’t hurt him,” the redhead said.
“He’d kill you on the spot.”
UnWillow laughed. “Don’t you understand, Buffy?” Buffy looked up at UnWillow, who retained her human appearance. “You serve no purpose now. He found the other—the next. If you die, she’s called, but we already have her.”
The blonde swallowed and tried to regain her composure. “You can’t be sure…”
“Magicks,” the vampire said simply. “Strong ones. They found her just before her Watcher did. She can’t cause any damage, like…”
“Like me,” Buffy interjected.
UnWillow patted her head as she put her mask back on. “Good girl. Now, close your eyes. It’ll only hurt for a minute; it goes all fuzzy and dark. Unlike me, you won’t have a shiny wake up. But it’s okay… I’m here for you.”
“You’ll never taste the first drop.” UnWillow had already lunged at her. It was too late to stop. Buffy’s chains were already wrapped around the vampire’s thin neck. She placed her foot on UnWillow’s shoulder and pulled. Pop. Nothing but dust. Clapping caught Buffy’s attention. The Master had arrived. She didn’t bother to look at him. She knew everything he was going to say. He was fun that way.
“Lovely show, dear. Very powerful.” He wiped at a non-existent tear away.
“You thought I wouldn’t kill her. Because she was my best friend,” Buffy looked up. Staring into his cold, undead eyes. “You were wrong.”
“So it seems,” the Master chided. “It was for the best, being right all the time isn’t good for one’s ego.” He laughed.
“Bastard.”
“Why do you try so much, Buffy? Why don’t you just give up?”
“I don’t do well with what’s expected.”
The Master looked at her. He shook the snarl off his face. “Cute. But now what? You have no back up? No family, no Watcher, no friends… no lover. You can’t take me down---“
“Why do you always wear it?”
“Wear what?” The Master questioned, looking at his appearance. He saw nothing wrong. He wore the same thing, always nice and shiny leather.
“Your mask. Do you think it makes you look scary? ‘Coz it doesn’t. Kind of silly, really.” She had earned herself a slap to the face. Buffy didn’t turn her head, or look away. “But I see what’s behind the mask. Just a scared and weak man. I knew a vampire who used to do that. He was old like you. But I took him down, and I was only a few months on the job.”
“Lothos,” the Master spat.
“You knew him?”
“I made him. He was weak. A stubborn childe… a fool. You must be dreaming if you think you can beat me like you did him. You’re alone, little girl.”
“I know.” The Master looked at her. “But I think it’s time I wake up.”
Chapter Four
Pound. Breathe. Pound. Breathe.
The next pound never came. Her eyes fluttered open. Everything was blurry at first, like she had closed her eyes for a long time during class. Her eyes focused enough to make out two figures.
“Buffy!”
The voice was so familiar. No time to think, there’s water in her throat. She turned her head, coughing it up, nearly gagging. Bad water. A hand came at her, stroking her forehead gently.
“Buffy.” So familiar. The voice was so familiar. Her eyes still hadn’t focused, but her ears were fine.
“Xander.”
“Welcome back,” he greeted, smiling. Or at least she thought he was smiling at her. She wasn’t sure. The other figure grasped her arm. She knew the touch. Angel. Xander clamped onto her other arm.
“Easy. Easy.” The ride to her feet was gentler. She looked beyond Angel and Xander, staring at her surroundings. Her eyes finally focused.
“The Master?”
Angel cut in. “He’s gone up.” Buffy straightened herself and started out, but Xander’s voice stopped her.
“No. You’re still weak.”
The muscles in her neck and arms rippled. “No. No, I feel strong. I feel different.” She turned to look at them. “Let’s go.”
She wasn’t going to cause that world to become reality. Buffy knew that, she was going to try her hardest. But the Slayer didn’t need to worry. Everything had changed. The tables had turned. She was going to win.

OPEN TO – Sunnydale California, Sunnydale High
Through the halls of Sunnydale High a pack of girls, led by none other then Cordelia Chase, make their way pass the crowds of students. Keeping in their perfect pack, Cordelia point- front, Harmony to her right and a Cordette, which we will call Vivian, on her left. Behind the three are a few other girls, following. A dude, stoner-dude, steps in front of them, causing all of them to stop.
Cordelia: Can I help you? Stoner-Dude: Cordelia Chase.
He licks his lips.
Cordelia: Ew.
Cordelia makes a motion with her hand for him to move, but he doesn’t seem to take the hint.
Stoner-Dude: So, the big dance is coming up, feeling like going with me?
Harmony and Vivian laugh. Cordelia sighs, crossing her arms.
Cordelia: You would have to be the last man on earth, even then I would consider dating a woman first. Now please, move. Stoner-Dude: Playing hard to get? I understand.
He places a hand on her shoulder. Out of no where, a hand grabs it and pulls it off, turn to find Buffy, clasping Stoner-Dude’s hand, a smile on her face.
Buffy: I do believe she said move. Stoner-Dude: Hey! Buffy: If I have to break something, I will be more then happy to, trust me. The sound of bones breaking is starting to become a reassuring sound. Stoner-Dude: Okay! Okay! Just let go!
Buffy does, Stoner-Dude holds his hand, in pain.
Stoner-Dude: Freak!
The stoner-dude walks off; Buffy turns to the pack of girls. Cordelia doesn’t seem impressed. Harmony starts to laugh.
Harmony: Oh my god, there really is something wrong with you. Vivian: I still can’t believe we were that (holds her ring finger and thumb about an inch apart) close to letting her hang with us. Now that would have been a mistake.
Cordelia looks to Harmony and Vivian.
Cordelia: You guys go ahead; I need to talk to Buffy for a moment. Harmony: Are you sure? Vivian: Is it safe? Cordelia: Yes, yes, now just go to class. And don’t let that nerd sit beside my seat like yesterday… The wheezing and acne was enough for me to want to jump out the window. Harmony: Right, no nerds. Vivian: Again, I am very sorry for that. Cordelia: Just go…
The girls walk off, leaving Cordelia and Buffy alone in the middle of the hallway.
Buffy: You’re welcome.
Cordelia scoffs.
Cordelia: No one said thank you. Buffy: I just saved you from Mr. Grabby-hands. Cordelia: You know, you think you are all high and mighty Buffy Summers, and just because you stopped Mary- Buffy: Marcy. Cordelia: Little Miss (gets a little quieter) Invisible Chic (returns to her normal tone), just because you stopped her from cutting my face into bits and pieces, doesn’t mean I owe you anything. You and Willow and Xander and the creepy Librarian really need to go outside and small the sanity. Buffy: Yeah, next time you are under attack- Cordelia: I will call the cops, like a normal person!
Buffy backs away.
Buffy: Very well, enjoy your life Cordelia. Cordelia: I will.
Cordelia walks off, purposely pushing past Buffy. Buffy groans. Willow walks up to her, a few books in hand.
Willow: What was that about? Buffy: Same old Cordelia.
The two start walking down the hall.
Willow: You’re lucky you didn’t know her back in Middle School. Before she became head of the mean-girls, she was like the brat attack. Buffy: Really? Willow: Yeah, but the moment she grew breasts, she was queen of the play ground. All the boys kneeled down to her… Even Xander wanted to play seven minutes in heaven with her. Buffy: Wil, Xander will please seven minutes in heaven with any girl. Willow: Except me. Buffy: Come on Willow, you know it’s not because you’re not-hot. Willow: I’m pretty sure it is. Buffy: It’s because you’re like his sister! You have been friends for like ever, and trying to get a relationship out of that would risk hurting your friendship. Now would you want to lose Xander as a friend? Willow: No… Buffy: Exactly. Willow: But I would still like to know… Maybe if things were different. Buffy: Don’t think like that Willow. Willow: I guess you’re right. Buffy: So are we going to the Bronze tonight? I heard this new band is playing, it should be pretty fun. Dingoes Ate my Something-or-other. Willow: I’ll try, but I still need to finish that Biology paper. Buffy: Is that due tomorrow? Willow: Yeah. Buffy: Oh… Willow: Buffy, we’ve had two weeks to work on it. Buffy: I blame Giles… I should be able to get excused from stuff like that, I mean, slayer-stuff takes up a lot of study time. Can’t I be graded on how many vampires I kill? Let’s say if I kill 10 I get an A? Willow: What does that have to do with Biology, exactly? Buffy: I can draw a diagram of where the stake goes? Willow: Oh Buffy, what are we going to do with you?
Buffy smirks.
CUT TO –Sunnydale High, later that day in the Library
Harmony and Cordelia walk through the stacks; Cordelia runs her finger along the spines of some of the books.
Harmony: Do you see it? Cordelia: No, but if you need to know anything about 18th Century myths, or something called an Ascension, then we’re set. Harmony: A what? Cordelia: I don’t know… But all I can say is we have some strange books for a High School Library. Harmony: It’s that Mr. Giles. He is just straight forward weird. I mean, have you seen the way he acts towards Buffy… Cordelia: Pervish? Harmony: Yeah. Cordelia: I’ve noticed, but some people just crave older men. Harmony: Oh, talking about older-men, how is that Angel guy doing? Have you been able to pry his eyes off Buffy? Cordelia: Oh, I’m working on it. Harmony: How old is he anyways? Cordelia: Twenty, Twenty One. But those eyes, Oh! They are eyes with soul. Just looking into them you can see years of passion. Harmony: You always find the perfect men Cordy. Cordelia: I’m just lucky.
Cordelia stops at a book; it has a gold spine, which makes it stand out. The writing is in a red, almost crystal like writing.
Harmony: What is it?
Cordelia pulls the book out, mesmerized. She opens the book, and flips a few pages.
Cordelia: I don’t know, but something about this book…
Cordelia flips past a few pages; one page has Anyanka clearly drawn on it. She stops at a page with simple black writing.
Cordelia: With these words I speak, I choose to switch my life with those of the name I utter twice. The memories fade and the love dismissed take these words and do as I bid. Harmony: What does that mean? Cordelia: I don’t know…
Buffy walks into the Library, she calls out for Giles.
Buffy: Giles!
Buffy can’t see Cordelia or Harmony, but they can hear Buffy. Cordelia slams the book closed, she grinds her teeth together, very annoyed to hear Buffy’s voice.
Cordelia: Buffy… I just can’t stand any more Buffy!
The book starts to shake in Cordelia’s hand, Cordelia quickly lets go taking a step back. The book falls onto the ground.
Harmony: What did you do? Cordelia: Me?
The book starts flipping pages, gust of wind blowing around it. Buffy hears the commotion and makes her way into the stacks.
Buffy: Cordelia? Cordelia: Go away! Buffy: What did you do?
Cordelia turns and faces Buffy, yelling, and trying to fight over the noise of the wind.
Cordelia: I did nothing! Buffy: That book is moving on its own! Cordelia: So, the school is drafty, don’t go blaming me! Buffy: Cordelia! Cordelia: What!?
The book flashes white, engulfing everything. Fade to white.
FADE TO – The Summer’s House, Buffy’s Bedroom
In Buffy’s bed, a person sleeps. The blanket covers their face. A young Dawn runs into the room, her hair is tied back, a large grin on her face.
Dawn: Cordelia! Cordelia!
The blanket moves, and Cordelia lies, half asleep.
Cordelia: What? Dawn: Mom told me to come wake you up. You need to get going for school… Cordelia: Dawn… Dawn: What? Cordelia: What did I tell you about my room? Dawn: But mom… Cordelia: Leave!
Dawn huffs and walks out. Cordelia slowly sits up, pulling her hair out of her face. Joyce calls from down stairs.
Joyce: (Off Screen) Cordelia, get a move on it! Cordelia: Okay mom!
Cordelia stands out of the bed.
Cordelia: Jeez…
CUT TO – The Summer’s House, The Kitchen
Cordelia walks down into the kitchen, where Joyce is cooking and Dawn is sitting drinking a glass of orange juice.
Dawn: ‘Bout time. Cordelia: You’re really testing my patience Dawnie. Joyce: Now, now Cordelia, just calm down.
Cordelia takes a seat and pours herself a glass of milk.
Joyce: So your Spanish teacher phoned me again this morning. Cordelia: Oh… Joyce: Apparently you’ve missed the last three classes. Cordelia: Well… I… Joyce: Cordelia. I thought you were going to make an effort?
Joyce brings over two plates of pancakes to Dawn and Cordelia. Dawn starts eating, enjoying her sister getting in trouble.
Cordelia: I kind of got caught up in the Library. Joyce: Really? Cordelia: I’ve been doing extra credit work for Mr. Giles to help my English mark, and I didn’t think it would affect Spanish. Joyce: Cordelia… Cordelia: I promise.
Cordelia finishes drinking her milk and grabs her black back pack and starts walking out.
Cordelia: I’ll do better!
Joyce turns to Dawn.
Joyce: Are you going to be this much trouble? Dawn: Most likely. Joyce: Great… Dawn: Well, at least you got practice with Buffy.
Joyce smirks. Dawn keeps eating.
CUT TO – Sunnydale High, Library
Cordelia sits with Willow and Xander, as if everything was normal. Cordelia is dressed very Buffy like, with a silver cross (the one given to Buffy by Angel) around her neck.
Cordelia: There were three of them last night. Xander: I told you we should have come. We could have helped. Cordelia: I don’t think you would have been able to help. They were pretty strong… I haven’t faced a vampire that strong since Luke. Willow: Maybe the Master has like multiple Lukes.
Giles enters a large book in his hands.
Giles: I wouldn’t doubt it. Cordelia: You think he’s just turning Vampires super strong now to piss me off? Giles: Well, to kill you. Cordelia: Great. Willow: But at least you have Angel to help in your fight. Cordelia: That’s true.
Xander scoffs.
Xander: Angel… Cordelia: Come now Xander, he’ll be a great help in my fight against evil. I mean, he can actually take a punch. Xander: Hey! Willow: She’s right. Giles: Well… Xander: Thank you. All of you.
Cordelia looks to her watch.
Cordelia: Oh, I have to go. If I miss another Spanish class, well let’s just say Mrs. Dumas called my mom this morning… I just don’t think it’s fair when teachers and parents talk. Nothing good, ever, comes out of it. Never. Xander: True to that. Cordelia: I’ll see you guys later. Willow: Bye Cord.
Cordelia walks out, and into the hallway. As she does, Buffy, with Vivian and Harmony walking with her, approaching Cordelia. Buffy is dressed in her cheerleading outfit.
Buffy: Hey Cordelia. Cordelia: Buffy… Buffy: Just thought I’d check up on you. You seemed a little confused yesterday. Cordelia: What are you talking about? Buffy: When you came up to me and did that thing… Cordelia: What thing? Buffy: With your lips. Harmony: Talking? Buffy: Yeah, talking to me, with out an invitation. Who do you think we are, friends? Cause trust me, we may have been nice to you on your first day, but we aren’t your friends. Cordelia: Thanks for the heads up.
Buffy grins.
Buffy: Well you have a nice day. Cordelia: Will do.
Buffy, Harmony and Vivian walk off, laughing. Cordelia sighs and continues to her class. As she approaches, Angel steps out of the shadows.
Angel: Cordelia…
Cordelia turns; the hallways are empty, except for the two of them.
Cordelia: Angel? What are you doing here? Angel: I- Cordelia: Wait, bad news? Angel: Well… Cordelia: Can’t it wait for after-school hours? Angel: Come with me, its important. Cordelia: So is passing Spanish. Angel: Please, just come with me. Cordelia: Fine…
Cordelia starts walking towards the exit, Angel holds out a hand.
Angel: Where are you going? Cordelia: Outside. Angel: Erm… Cordelia: Oh! Right! Angel: I came in from the basement. Follow me. Cordelia: Right, sewers, cause I had so much fun in those the first time.
CUT TO – An Under grown Sewage Base
Cordelia and Angel kneel at the entrance, inside the layer a row of teenage girls are tied to the walls. A man, his face unseen, paces in front of them.
Cordelia: (Quietly) What is he doing with those girls? Angel: (Quietly) He is trying to infect their bodies. Cordelia: (Quietly) Infect?
A man walks up behind the two, he is very large, and has brace knuckles on.
Guard: Intruders?
Cordelia and Angel quickly stand. The Guard grabs Cordelia’s arm.
Guard: Come with me. Cordelia: Um, no.
The Guard pulls, Cordelia high kicks him, forcing him to let go. She then spin-kicks, knocking him in the face. The noise catches the attention of the man in the other room.
Man: Who’s there?
Angel quickly rushes into the battle.
Angel: Cordelia, go tell Giles about this, I’ll take care of him. Cordelia: Are you sure? Angel: Leave it me.
Cordelia nods and rushes out, Angel turns into his ‘game’ vampire face. Angel lunges forward, grasping onto the Guard.
CUT TO – Sunnydale High Library
Cordelia runs in, she looks very distort.
Cordelia: Giles! Giles!
Giles steps out of his office.
Giles: What is it? Cordelia: We have a problem.
CUT TO – Outside Sunnydale High
Buffy and Harmony walk together; Buffy is now wearing normal clothing.
Harmony: Are you sure you don’t want me to tag along? Buffy: No, I think I can handle Kyle myself. Plus, I think he may ask me to the dance. Harmony: Okay then. See you later.
Buffy waves, Harmony walks off. Buffy takes a seat on the steps of the school. She looks to her watch.
Buffy: He better hurry up, I won’t be waiting all day for him.
Footsteps can be heard, Buffy quickly stands up.
Buffy: Kyle?
The footsteps seem to be coming from around the other side of the building. Buffy slowly walks over, as she turns the corner, she sees Kyle’s dead body, the neck snapped, and his eyes with a blank and lifeless glare.
Buffy: Oh my god, Kyle!
A man grabs Buffy from behind, using his hand to cover her mouth. Buffy tries to scream, but no sound is heard. The man holds her tight as she tries to break free, squirming and flaying her legs around.
Buffy: (Muffled) Let me go! I’m Buffy Chase for god’s sake! Large Man: Now, now, just keep quite, and I won’t snap your neck like your boyfriend.
Buffy pauses, tears start running down her face.
Large Man: Good girl. Now to take you back to my boss. Buffy: (Muffled) Please, please no… Large Man: Try and stop me blondy.
Buffy continues crying.
CUT TO – Sunnydale High Library
Cordelia walks from Giles’ office with a sword in hand. Willow and Xander sit at the center table, while Giles bring out a few books.
Willow: Cordelia, you can’t go alone. Cordelia: Willow. Willow: I’m serious, who knows what these things are. Cordelia: Angel is there, I think we’ll be able to double team and kick some ass. Xander: What if he’s already dead? Cordelia: Xander! Xander: What? I’m just saying… Cordelia: Well don’t. Xander: We’re not going to just let you jump into something like this!
Cordelia wields the sword.
Cordelia: Try and stop me Xander. Giles: Now Buffy, Xander has a point. We don’t know what type of demon this is, or what powers it has. It maybe a simple pack of vampires, or it could be something like you’ve never seen. Cordelia: I’m the slayer. Giles: Yes you are, but I am your Watcher! Cordelia: Aren’t you the one who told me to be more slayer-full? Be more open to my calling? Now that I am all wanna-slay you’re pulling me back. Giles, where is the fair? Giles: Cordelia… Cordelia: With Angel there, I will be fine. Kick some demon ass, save the day and maybe get a shiny new bruise to go with the other hundred.
Cordelia grabs her jacket and starts to walk out.
Willow: (OS) But Buffy’s the slayer…
Cordelia turns around.
Cordelia: What? Willow: I said, “But you’re the only slayer”. We don’t wanna lose you. Cordelia: Don’t worry…
Cordelia turns back to the door, taking a moment.
Cordelia: I’ll be back.
Cordelia exits. Giles turns to Willow and Xander, the two look very worried.
Willow: Do you think she’ll make it back? Xander: Well, it’s Cordelia… I mean… Giles: (Interrupts) She has too.
CUT TO – An Under grown Sewage Base
Cordelia enters from where she and Angel were fighting. No one is in sight. She quietly whispers.
Cordelia: Angel? Angel?
Cordelia keeps her sword firmly in grip, ready to attack. A large crash is heard; Cordelia quickly swings around, and strikes forward with the sword. The blade stops about an inch away from the face of Buffy, who looks badly beat and scared. Buffy screams, closing her eyes.
Cordelia: Buffy? Buffy: God! What is your childhood trauma?
Cordelia helps Buffy up to her feet.
Buffy: What is with you and swords? Cordelia: Buffy, what are you doing here? Buffy: This guy jumped me at the school… He killed Kyle and brought me down here. Then a man… Oh, Mr. Salty Goodness saved the day. Cordelia: Angel… Buffy: Angel? Cordelia: Buffy, what happened to him? Buffy: Some guy knocked him out and dragged him along that path. Cordelia: Stay here okay? Don’t move, stay hidden. Buffy: You’re going to leave me? You can’t leave me! I don’t wanna die! Cordelia: Buffy! Buffy: I can help! Cordelia: Buffy! This is serious, stay here. I can’t risk anyone else getting hurt.
Cordelia starts running down the dark path, leaving Buffy alone. She starts to whimper.
Buffy: I could have cheered you on.
CUT TO – Another part of the Under grown Sewage Base
Cordelia stops at a dead end.
Cordelia: Great…
She starts to head back when she noticed a man hole under her. She sees flickers of lights and slowly kneels down removing the man hole top, and lightly tossing it aside. Cordelia peers down to see a man, a young Knox, standing in front of four woman and Angel. They are all blind folded and gagged.
Knox: No need to be scared. Today is a day of glory! You lucky five have been chosen to host the spirits of gods. To become their shells and let their holiness touch the earth ground!
Knox turns to behind him, five large sarcophaguses sit.
Knox: Let these gods know this world.
Cordelia jumps down, landing on her feet, keeping her sword in hand.
Cordelia: Let’s not.
Knox quickly turns to face Cordelia.
Knox: Who are you? Cordelia: They call me Cordelia… The Vampire Slayer. Knox: I don’t see any vampires around here. Cordelia: Well… It’s more then just vampires. I do demons too, and witches… and invisible people. It’s just a name. Knox: I see. Cordelia: Now let these people go.
Knox pulls out an axe.
Knox: Make me.
Cordelia jumps forward, swinging her sword. Knox holds his axe up, blocking the blade. Cordelia quickly spin kicks, knocking Knox’s axe out of his hand.
Knox: Hey!
Knox runs to one of the sarcophaguses and places his hand over it. Cordelia freezes.
Knox: One more step, and I’ll unleash this god into you.
CUT TO – Sunnydale High Library
Giles places a pile of books onto the table, the top book is the book Cordelia found before. Willow pulls it to her and opens it to a random page.
Willow: Giles… How is this going to help?
Willow reads from the book.
Willow: With these words I speak, I choose to switch my life with those of the name I utter twice. The memories fade and the love dismissed take these words and do as I bid. Xander: We could always switch Cordelia with someone else. Willow: With these words I speak, I choose to switch Cordelia’s life? I don’t think she’d be too happy with that. Giles: I don’t think she would…
Giles walks into his office.
Willow: Though it would be kind of neat.
Willow places her hands on the text.
CUT TO – Another part of the Under grown Sewage Base
Knox opens up the seal, releasing dust which quickly hits Cordelia. Cordelia gasps covering her mouth with her hands. Everything seems slow motion, as Xander and Willow talk voice over. Knox laughs as Cordelia falls to her knees.
Willow: (voice over) With these words I speak, I choose to switch Cordelia’s life with those of the name I utter twice. The memories fade and the love dismissed take these words and do as I bid. Wait, who do I pick?
Cordelia’s eyes freeze over blue, strands of blue start to appear in her hair as she gasps on the ground.
Xander: (voice over) Buffy! Willow: (voice) Buffy? Why Buffy?
A light flashes, everything goes white.
FADE TO – Sunnydale High Library
Cordelia and Buffy lay on the ground in the stacks. Harmony kneels over Cordelia, flapping a piece of paper to create wind in her face.
Harmony: Cordy? Are you alive?
Cordelia slowly opens her eyes.
Cordelia: What happened? Harmony: I don’t know! You and Buffy just fell. It was super crazy.
Cordelia rolls onto her side, looking at Buffy.
Cordelia: Buffy?
Harmony helps Cordelia to her feet.
Harmony: What should we do with her? Cordelia: Call Mr. Giles… I’ll make sure she’s still alive.
Harmony rushes off, Cordelia just looks at Buffy.
CUT TO – Sunnydale High Hallway
Buffy walks alone, Cordelia approaches her, also alone.
Cordelia: Buffy. Buffy: What? Cordelia: How’s your head? Buffy: Better, I guess. Cordelia: I just wanted to tell you, I under…
Cordelia pause as if she forgot what she was about to say.
Buffy: You under…? Cordelia: I… (scoffs) I can’t understand that outfit of yours. Geez, you’re almost as bad as your friend Willow. It’s embarrassing. Who would be caught dead in that outfit? Buffy: Thank you.
Buffy walks off. Harmony and Vivian walk up to Cordelia.
Vivian: What was that about? Cordelia: Charity. I try to do it daily, help the hopeless. You know, what ever I can do to give back.
They all start laughing as they start walking through the halls, getting lost in the crowd.

Season 1 Fanfic by Hitnrun017
It's Friday afternoon. Easter is this Sunday. Buffy Summers, the Vampire Slayer, and her two best friends, Xander Harris and Willow Rosenburg sit around the table in the Library at Sunnydale High School. Willow is looking kind of sad and angry at herself. Buffy is about to ask what's wrong when Giles, Buffy's Watcher, walks out of his office with a cup of tea and a newspaper.
GILES: Buffy, I have a job for you.
Buffy rolls her eyes.
BUFFY: Great.
GILES: I need you to go to the mall-
BUFFY: Yay! Shopping! I like this alternate universe Giles.
GILES: Sorry to break it to you and your adolescence but it is not to shop.
BUFFY: Humph. Then if it's not to shop, what's the point?
GILES: There are five people missing. They were last spotted at the mall. Go and and look for anything suspicous.
XANDER: Haha. Have fun Buff.
GILES: You will be going to Xander.
XANDER: Come on! What did I do?
Buffy laughs a little
BUFFY: For being you.
Xander glares at her. Willow perks up a little.
WILLOW: Can I go to Giles?
GILES: Of course Willow.
Willow smiles. She looks happier.
BUFFY: Wait... Why arn't you going?
GILES: I have things to attend to.
BUFFY: Whatever. Lets go guys. Let us leave Giles with his “important work.”
They get up and start walking out.
GILES: Do be careful.
BUFFY: You know us.
***
It is now dark. The mall is jam-packed with those annoying last second holiday shoppers. Buffy, Willow and Xander walk down the corriders of the crowded mall.
BUFFY: How are we suppose to look for clues with all these people crowding around?
XANDER: Can me and Willow go home? We've been here for four hours and nothing. And I don't do good with crowds.
BUFFY: No! That would be so unfair. Just because Giles made us come here to do the work for him doesn't mean you can just bail, and besides, walking around the mall alone is high school suicide.
Xander looks over and leans to Willow.
XANDER: Told you.
WILLOW: Xander... Don't blame that on me. Just because you can't tell her how you fe-
Xander nudges Willow's arm and Willow stops herself. Buffy looks at Xander with surprised look.
WILLOW: (cont'd) -el about crowds doesn't mean I don't want to go. And I think we are doing something right.
XANDER: Well can I at least go see the Easter Bunny?
BUFFY: What do you think the answer to that will be?
They keep walking down the mall looking for clues. They are silent for about 3 minutes until Xander gasps. Buffy turns to him alarmed.
BUFFY: What is it?!
Buffy asks as she gets ready for a fight.
XANDER: OH-MY-GOD!
Buffy hears Willow giggle and turns around, confused. Willow points.
WILLOW: Look.
Buffy sees the sign, KB Toys.
XANDER: The new G.I Joe! I thought he didn't come out for another couple weeks! I will be right back.
Buffy and Willow roll their eyes as Xander pushes his way into the store. Somebody runs into Willow.
WILLOW: Ouch
It's Cordelia, and to make it even better, Harmony is right next to her.
CORDELIA: Willow, I think you're going the wrong way, Sears is that way.
Harmony laughs. Willow puts her head down. Buffy felt bad.
BUFFY: Cordelia, maybe instead spending daddy's money at Bitches R' Us you could get a real hobby.
Buffy smiled to herself, she liked that one.
CORDELIA: Buffy, maybe instead of hanging out with complete losers you could get real hobby, learning to dress better and not getting kicked out of school.
HARMONY: Yeah what she said.
It took all of Buffy's strength not to hit both of them. But lucky for her Xander came, with an angry look. Guess he didn't have enough, but it's better for him. Buffy thought to herself. But as Xander was walking back to them, instead of getting insulted by Cordelia, he tripped over someones foot and stumbled into Cordelia knocking her drink all over Harmony's outfit.
HARMONY: OH MY GOD! LOOK WHAT YOU DID YOU BIG GEEK! THIS WAS MY FAVORITE!
She ran away crying. Cordelia kicked Xander in the shins and took off. Xander whimpered.
CORDELIA: HARMONY!
Willow laughed.
BUFFY: You are SO my favorite person today.
XANDER: Arn't I always?
Buffy looks at Willow then back to Xander.
BUFFY: No.
They started walking again. Searching for any clues.
BUFFY: So Willow, what was wrong earlier in the Library? You looked kind of upset.
WILLOW: Oh. it's nothing.
XANDER: Oh come on. I wont make you feel too bad.
WILLOW: Oh alright... I got an B+ on my Bio test.
XANDER: Oh alright... I got an F- on MY Bio test.
Buffy laughed.
BUFFY: Don't worry Willow. You will always be the smart one. WAY smarter then Giles, who is probably at home reading instead of helping US here.
XANDER: He's too old.
WILLOW: Hey! I've learned a lot from him! Like today he was explaining to me what a-
A loud, high pitched scream came out of no where. Quickly followed but a stampede of annoying shoppers screaming for their lives. Buffy, Willow and Xander dodge them by running into Brookstone. Xander lands on a bed.
XANDER: OOO Comfy!
Willow smacks the back of his head. They wait for the people to pass. They walk out of the store, well Buffy and Willow do and then they have to go back and drag Xander out. But when all three of them walk out, the mall is deserted. Bags lay on the floor from people who ran for their lives.
XANDER: Can I take stuff?
BUFFY: Xander, shut up. You're not my favorite person anymore.
Xander frowns.
WILLOW: Doesn't this mall have sercuity?
BUFFY: Guess not. Or they chickened out, which wouldn't be good.
They hear someone yell "HELP ME?!" Buffy is the first one to take off running. She can hear Willow and Xander close behind. Buffy stops with a confused look on her face.
BUFFY: What the?
XANDER: Woah.
They see the Easter Bunny dragging a girl, Aura, into a store.
WILLOW: The Easter Bunny is behind this?
XANDER: Makes sense if you think about it.
BUFFY: No, it really doesn't.
AURA: Help me! I hate bunnies!
They run after the bunny. When they get inside the store, they're gone.
WILLOW: Where did they go?
BUFFY: I don't know.
XANDER: We have to help her!
WILLOW: Didn't you use to like her?
XANDER: Oh please, I would never date a girl who has a fear of bunnies.
BUFFY: Guys please! Look around for any clues.
They spread out to look around. Willow spots a drop of blood.
WILLOW: Ick.
After another 5 minutes of looking around. Xander spots a shelf, it's empty, besides one book. He says to himself...
XANDER: Hmm. Why not? I've seen enough tv.
He walks over to it and pulls it. A secret door opens.
XANDER: Sweet!
WILLOW: How did you find that?
XANDER: Tv.
BUFFY: Of course. Only you Xander. Now lets go.
All three walk through. Buffy leading the way. They are in a long hall way. A creepy hall way. Cobwobs, and wooden panels.
WILLOW: Something right out of Scooby Doo.
BUFFY: Yeah a creepy Scooby Doo episode. But this is reality.
XANDER: I hate reality.
Normally Buffy and Willow would laugh, but not now.
They hear shouting coming from down the hall. They speed up their pace. There are lots of doors. Maybe 30.
BUFFY: Let's do this.
They all split up. Opening door after door. Buffy is on her last door when she hears Willow scream. She turns around quickly and sees Willow being dragged into a door by white fluffy arms. Buffy and Xander run into the room and they see Willow stuggling with all her might against the big bunny. The room is like a prisen. Stone walls with a big cell. And in the cell are the 5 missing people and Aura. And on the other side of the room, 5 vampires.
BUFFY: Here we go.
She takes out the stake and gives the big bunny a big spinning high kick to the face. The bunny grunts and the head comes off. But it was costume. Now their is a female vampire in a big bunny outfit, Darla.
BUFFY: More offerings for The Master?
Darla smiles and licks her lips
DARLA: Mmm. Yes. And You and friends make it all the better.
BUFFY: Yeah but that outfit makes you look ridiculous. And also why are you dressed like bunny.
DARLA: Wasn't my idea...
Xander helps Willow up and they bring out their stakes. A vampire charges at them and Xander ducks out of the way. The vampire runs head first into the stone wall. Xander brings his stake down...on the stomach.
XANDER: Oops.
He was having trouble taking the stake out. Willow helps by finishing him off right in the heart. The vampire explodes into a cloud of dust.
WILLOW: Did I do that?
Buffy felt a sharp pain go through her as Darla punches her in the face.
DARLA: Take her!
The remaining 4 vampires rush at her. Buffy punches one, knocking him down. She grabs another by the arm and throws him into the remaining 2. Darla hits her from behind. Buffy falls over. She takes her stake and dusts one vamp who is right beside her. She takes Darla down with a leg sweep. Buffy brings her stake down but just before it pins Darla in the heart, a vampire takes her down. Choking her. Buffy's eyesight becomes a blur. She is about to black out just before the vampire explodes to dust. She sees Xander.
XANDER: Yay! I got one!
He helps Buffy up. Darla tackles him and he runs into the wall, he is knocked out.
WILLOW: XANDER!!
Buffy turns to Darla.
BUFFY: You are SO going to pay for that!
DARLA: Am I? How?
BUFFY: Like this...
Buffy takes Darla's arm and pulls it back. There is a pop. Buffy sees Willow freeing the prisoners inside. When Willow finally gets them out, they take off. Buffy pushes Darla into the cage. Willow shuts the cage door and it locks.
BUFFY: How's that for you?
DARLA: You are SO gunna pay for this!
BUFFY: Am I? How?
A vampire kicks Buffy in the back. Buffy stumbles and runs into the cage.
DARLA: Like this...
Darla takes the bunny gloves off and scratches Buffy's face with her nails.
BUFFY: OW! This is gunna be so hard to cover up!
Buffy turns around. Stake in hand, she spins around and brings her stake to the vampire in front her. Implaing him through the heart. The last one runs off. Pushing Willow out of his way.
BUFFY: HEY!
She throws her stake. Hitting the vampire in the heart, dusting him just as he gets out the door. Xander wakes.
XANDER: Did we win?
WILLOW: We won.
She helps him up.
DARLA: As soon as The Master rises, you are gunna be sorry.
BUFFY: Yeah, Yeah. Everytime he tries, I will just be there to stop him.
They walk out.
XANDER: Bye Bye Bunny.
They hear Darla growl.
***
When they walk out of the mall, the cops come. Helping all the prisoners. Of course, it was a gang on PCP.
BUFFY: You guys did good.
WILLOW: Thanks. I'm glad I didn't almost pass out this time.
BUFFY: Well let's bring Giles the good news.
XANDER: And yell at him for not being here to help us?
BUFFY: If it makes you feel better.
XANDER: Thanks.
They walk off laughing.

The Starting Line by Firerancher
The Starting Line
Waking up was never easy for Willow Rosenberg. It was always the hardest part of the day, especially after a good night’s sleep. Today was no different, as she grumbled her protest to the rising sun’s attempts to wake her through the window. However, once her alarm clock showed there wasn’t enough time to hit snooze again, Willow Rosenberg was a completely different person. She was chipper, and eager to start her daily ritual of school, homework, and computer time. Her parents were away on a conference tour this month, starting out on the East Coast today, if she has the dates remembered correctly. As she hopped the few blocks to school, she passed by her best friend’s house, knowing Xander was probably waiting until the last minute to crawl out of bed, barely making it to class on time. It was just another typical start to another typical day in Sunnydale, California. That was until lunch… Xander was out with Jesse, probably skipping the rest of school, or torturing the other girls in the hallways. They weren’t bad looking guys but they brought repulsion with them everywhere they went; at least it seemed that way at times. If they’d clean up a little, maybe shower before school instead of waiting until the last minute, throwing on yesterday’s jeans, and whatever t-shirt was lying around…then, maybe they’d have a better shot. Willow didn’t see anything wrong with them but the shallow girls they chased after sure did. Getting ready to tackle her banana, Willow just watched all Sunnydale High’s inhabitants like she did every day. Alone, under the tree, on this same bench. Unless they needed help with school, people avoided her like the plague, too. Of course, she wasn’t trying to fit in, or push herself into the popular crowd by any means. This redhead liked her alone time. Xander, Jesse, and Amy were all the friends she really needed, even if she did prefer her computer most of the time to the shenanigans of teenage boy hormones. Just as she was about to sigh deeply, content in her lack of surrounding people, a shadow approached cautiously. Looking up, she noticed the new girl standing there, waving at somebody. Willow looked around, thinking she was waving at somebody else…but clearly, she was the only one in this area. She always was. “Um…hi, I don’t mean to butt in on your lunch. You looked like you were in happy land…but um…you’re Willow, right?” The blonde waited for a response but Willow was still dumbfounded that her daily routine was interrupted. “Oh, um…yeah. Hi. Did you want me to move?” Willow hoped this wasn’t the case. This was HER spot but she wasn’t assertive enough to tell the new girl the lay of the lunch land. “No, you don’t have to move.” The blonde girl smiled at her, and sat down on the bench beside her. “I’m Buffy.” “Willow. Um…did you need a pencil, or something?” Willow started to put her half-eaten banana down but Buffy touched her arm, halting the process. “Am I bothering you? Do you want ME to move?” Buffy looked at the redhead with a sort of hopeful, puppy-dog look. “It’s just…I have this wicked craving to survive here, and I was told you were the one to ask for help.” “Oh, you mean like school stuff?! I can totally do that.” Willow was relieved that she wouldn’t have to move but the interruption in her routine was duly noted. “What did you need help in exactly?” “Um…everything?” Buffy’s sheepish look was enough to make Willow give a toothy grin. “I just moved here, obviously…and there’s this thing where teachers don’t slow down for new kids. I’m expected to just…pick right up, and I was thinking you could help me get up to speed.” “I can do that. You wanna meet in the library, maybe after school?” It would cut into her studies but it’s not like she wouldn’t have been helping Xander anyways. “Um…actually, I have to go straight home after school, barring there isn’t some major apocalypse.” Buffy winced, almost apologetic. “Oh, well…um…” Willow didn’t know what to say, which was odd for a girl that always said something, even when nervous. It was obvious Buffy was serious about not staying after school, and the redhead didn’t want to push. “I was thinking, I don’t know…maybe you could come home with me instead? Teach me the lay of the land even. My mom drove me to school, and I wasn’t really paying attention. You could walk with me, tell me all about the town? I mean… that is if your mom didn’t drive you, or picks you up, or that you don’t have any other plans. It’s okay if you do…” Buffy was babbling. It was if the tables had turned on Willow, and she had to wonder if she was that cute when she babbled. “No, that’s okay. I guess. I mean… you don’t come across as the psycho killer type. Although, if you were, you wouldn’t act like you were if you really wanted me to…” Willow was halted by Buffy’s hand again. “It’s okay. If you’re not comfortable, we can do it another time.” Buffy looked at Willow, as though seeing something charming or adorable. “Thanks for not thinking I’m the psycho killer type. I’ll take that as a compliment.” “It’s okay if you don’t want me to help you now. I know I’m a spaz.” Willow ducked her head. She’d never had this long of a conversation with anybody else she’d ever tutored. Matter of fact, everybody else was ‘my way, or the highway’ when it came to her, even Xander to some degree. However, it seemed like this Buffy girl was giving her a choice. She wasn’t threatening her into helping, or trying to act superior. No, this obviously popular-crowd-type stranger was treating her like a person. “You were hanging out with Cordelia earlier anyways.” “What does that have to do with anything?” Buffy was different than the rest of the popular crowd. She seemed baffled by Willow’s statement. “Well, you wouldn’t want her to see you talking to me.” Willow ate her banana to keep herself from babbling. “Cordelia’s been nice; to me, anyways…but like I said earlier, I have this strong desire not to flunk out.” Buffy was referring to their earlier encounter at the water fountain, where the Queen C decided to put Willow in her place for the second time that day, only with the new girl by her side this time. “Am I getting that you don’t want to hang out with me?” “You don’t have to hang out with me just to get me to help you.” Willow was running out of banana fast. “Who says I don’t wanna hang out with you just because…? I mean, sure…I have an added need of help…but maybe I genuinely find you interesting.” Buffy cocked her head to the side, studying Willow’s every move. “Sorry. I didn’t mean to imply that you were the type of person that would do that. It’s just. I’m used to that in the past, and I’m saying that you don’t have to hang out with me just to get my help. I’d be happy to help regardless.” Willow had somehow managed to dig herself into a hole, and this girl had peaked her interest BIG time. Not only was she being nice to her, she was absolutely gorgeous. Clean…unlike the boys. She smelled really great. Like sandalwood and vanilla with a hint of something…unique. It was hard to place. All of a sudden, Willow became completely aware of the other girl’s presence. “It’s okay. I know what you meant.” Buffy relaxed a bit, settling more in the area. “Don’t let me interrupt your lunch. You can eat and talk at the same time, can’t you?” “I don’t wanna be rude…” Willow gave Buffy a sheepish grin but she was really hungry, so she dug out her sandwich and carrots. “Would you like one?” “Oh, no thanks. I ate my lunch last period on my free.” Buffy smiled at Willow. “Thanks, though.” “You’re welcome.” Willow devoured her sandwich. She felt hungrier than usual for some reason. Maybe it was the fact that she was off schedule from talking to Buffy. “What time did you wanna meet and where?” “So…you’re gonna help me?” Buffy’s eyes lit up, and they almost had a glow to them. Willow couldn’t help but stare at them. “Of course…I said I would. Besides, you’ll wanna get caught up as soon as possible, so you don’t get even further behind. I don’t like that feeling, and I couldn’t imagine what you must be going through right now.” Willow found herself back in the comfort zone. “It’s a big, panicky headache.” Buffy smiled again. “How about we meet here when the last bell rings? We can walk to my house from here. It’s not that far.” “Nothing’s far in Sunnydale. You’re in walking distance to everything.” Willow could see Xander and Jesse making their way over to them, grins on their faces that showed their obvious intent: the hot new girl. Luckily, Principal Flutie saved the day, as he dragged them to his office for some good, old-fashioned discipline for skipping school yesterday. “Sounds great.” The bell rang, indicating that their lunch period was over, and they both gathered their things. “So…I’ll meet you here after school, and we’ll start with the learning.” “Yep.” Willow gave out her second toothy grin of the day, in a short span of fifteen minutes, no less. This typical day had already turned into something completely different.
Buffy Summers didn’t know what to expect on her first day in this new school but she definitely didn’t think everybody would want to know everything there was to know about her. Cordelia Chase had hung onto her every word, as though she was the coolest person alive just because she was from Los Angeles. She was really nice to her but Buffy wanted something new. She had outgrown the ‘I’m the queen, you’re my followers’ phase back at Hemery High. It was time to prove to her mom that she wasn’t really a troublemaker. It was hard enough convincing her that she hadn’t really burned down the school gym. When she’d expressed interest to her teachers that she’d like help getting caught up, there was one name that was unanimous: Willow Rosenberg. She’d remembered Willow from their earlier encounter with Cordelia at the water fountain. When lunch came around, she searched the entire quad and cafeteria but to no avail. The redhead was nowhere to be found. Buffy was about to give up when she spotted the girl sitting by herself underneath the shade of a giant tree. Once they started talking, Buffy had started flirting, hoping to charm the redhead into liking her. She couldn’t believe she was genuinely flirting with this nerdy girl but sure enough, the blonde was working her best introduction moves. The ones that made all the boys (and a few girls) back at Hemery High swoon, and become putty in her hands. This girl was different, though. She wasn’t falling for it, and that piqued Buffy’s interest big time. They’d decided to meet after school in this spot, and walk to Buffy’s house. As the blonde checked her watch for the third time, she was surprised to find that she was eager to see the redhead again. She seemed so…quirky and fun. Buffy was used to bitchy and whiny. Yes, it was definitely time for a change, and she might’ve found that in her new tutor. “Hey, sorry I’m late. I was helping Ms. Calendar in the computer lab.” Willow was hugging her books, as she made her way towards Buffy. “You’re not late. I was super early.” Buffy noticed that when Willow didn’t slouch, they were about the same height. “Ready to show me the town?” “When you are!” The redhead hugged her books tighter, and walked Buffy home, rambling on and on about Sunnydale, and the strange things that happen here. When they got to Revello Drive, Willow noticed there was no car in the driveway. “Is your mom not home?” “She must be working later. She’s opening up an art gallery downtown, so that keeps her pretty busy, I’d imagine.” Buffy unlocked her front door, and ushered the redhead inside. Boxes were everywhere, fresh from their moving day yesterday. “Can I get you something to drink, eat? Anything?” “Um…no, thanks.” Willow blushed, as Buffy shut the door. She didn’t know why, though. “You sure? It’s not a problem. I’m getting myself some juice anyways.” Buffy walked into the kitchen, leaving Willow standing there in an awkward glance. “Sorry about the mess. Just moved in, and all.” “That’s okay. Um…where did you wanna study, though?” Willow looked around, and noticed the couch had things on it, the dining table had things on it, and even the kitchen’s island bar was stacked. “We can go up to my room. It’s unpacked. I couldn’t sleep last night.” Buffy came in from the kitchen, and handed Willow a glass of orange juice. “Here. I know you said you didn’t want anything but I took the liberty of mixing you a drink anyways.” “Mixing? What’s in this?” Willow was about to panic. Was Buffy trying to give her alcohol? Maybe she was wrong about the psycho killer thing. “Two parts orange, one part grapefruit. The Buffy special.” Buffy handed Willow the glass, and the redhead took it hesitantly. “It’s okay. There’s no alcohol in there, if you’re worried about that. Mom would kill me if she found out I already know where she’s hidden the Peach Schnapps.” “Oh…um. Thanks.” Willow took a sip, and was relieved that there indeed was no alcohol. “The Buffy Special?” “My mom used to make it for me when I was sick, and I got addicted.” Buffy touched Willow’s elbow slightly, and motioned for her to move up the stairs. “If you’re not comfortable with this…since you just met me today, we can meet in the library tomorrow morning.” “No, no I’m here. This is okay. I’m okay. Everything’s okay.” Willow wasn’t sure if she was just trying to convince herself. Her other tutees just met her at the school, usually around the football field, where they’d have some sort of practice. “I don’t want you to panic. It’s just schoolwork.” Buffy opened her bedroom door, and became nervous all of a sudden. She hadn’t been here one day, and already she had a girl up in her room. ‘Moving kinda fast, aren’t we?’ “I like your room. It’s very…homey.” Willow let out a sigh of relief. She was still worried she was walking into a trap. She laid her backpack down by the bed, and looked around at the different decorations. It was if Buffy had lived here for years already. Reaching over, she picked up the little pink pig from the bed. “Oh, that’s Mr. Gordo.” Buffy walked over, and sat on the bed next to Willow. “Buffy? Who is this?” Mrs. Summers had come out of nowhere, it seemed. The worry in her voice showed the concern for her daughter’s choice in friends. “Oh, Mom. This is Willow. She’s gonna help me catch up in my classes.” Buffy watched Willow start to turn into a beet, and became worried for the girl. “Willow, this is my mom.” “Oh, uh…hi, Mrs. Summers. I’m just going to help Buffy study, and I’ll be gone. We’ll be quiet. You won’t even know I’m here. Well, you do know that I’m here but you could pretend like I’m not. That is, if you want to pretend like I’m not. That’s not to say that you want to, or implying that you would.” Willow stopped when Buffy’s hand squeezed her knee. “It’s okay. Just make sure all you do is study.” Joyce eyed Buffy suspiciously, especially after the knee touch. She wasn’t worried about Willow; she was worried about her daughter. “I’ll call when dinner is ready.” “Okay, mom.” Buffy watched her mother shut the door, and noticed Willow had a baffled face. “What?” “What did your mom mean by, ‘just make sure all you do is study?’” Willow started fidgeting with her fingers, as her curious nature took over her previous babble fest. “Oh, she’s just being the concerned parent. You know how they are…” Buffy noticed the forlorn look Willow cast, and felt like she’d put her foot in her mouth. “Oh, god…Do you not…” “No, no…I do. Well, sorta. I mean, they’re both still living if that’s what you mean, and I do live in their house. It’s just that they’re never home, and when they are, they might as well be gone.” Willow turned out of parent territory quick. “So…what’d you want to start with?” “Oh…well, I was thinking history, and then we could segue into the present.” Buffy started digging through her books. “It was cool to see you in my classes this afternoon. At least I know you’ll have some clue where I’m at, and we won’t have to do this cold turkey.” They went about studying for almost two hours with no breaks. Buffy found she was already up to speed in history, since she’d taken the same course last semester at Hemery. She was okay in Algebra once Willow showed her how to solve the problems. When they got to English? That was another story. The class was already halfway through a novel, and there was no way she’d catch up in time for the quiz tomorrow. Willow mentioned that the teacher would probably give her an extension, since it was only her second day of class. At about six, Buffy’s mom called them down for dinner. Joyce invited Willow to stay for dinner, and after much coercing, and convincing the girl that she’d just have to make something for herself later (since her parents were away), the redhead agreed. She was quiet through most of dinner, being completely polite, and answering all of Joyce’s questions. Willow found out Buffy’s parents were divorced, that Buffy was a troublemaker at her old school, and they’d moved to Sunnydale to start anew. The redhead wanted to smile when she noticed the exasperated look Buffy kept giving her mom throughout the conversation. She’d only known her one day but she could tell this blonde girl wasn’t really a troublemaker, and that her mom didn’t really believe that she was, either. Maybe they both just needed a fresh start.
The next day at school, Willow was surprised to find Buffy interrupting her lunch routine again. The blonde found her, and sat down on the bench beside her. The redhead was a little worried, especially when she saw Cordelia Chase across the quad looking at them. Living in fear every day of the Queen of Sunnydale High wasn’t exactly the best extracurricular activity. At least she hadn’t threatened her into tutoring her. “Something wrong?” Buffy looked at Willow with concern. The girl had barely said two words since she’d sat down. “Did we scare you last night? I know my mom can come on strong but she’s just trying to interrogate my friends before I make them.” “Friends?” Willow gave Buffy a disbelieving look. “Well…if you want another friend, I hope I’d be up for your consideration.” Buffy smiled at the girl, a flirty grin. “Oh…well, I just thought you’d want help. I didn’t think you’d really wanna hang out with me. I mean…I told you about my friends when you walked me home last night. We’re the losers here, and you’re…not.” Willow tried her hardest not to stare at Buffy but it was so hard when the blonde smirked like that. “I mean…Cordelia obviously invited you into her crowd, which people have tried for years to do. Don’t let me spoil your chance at popularity.” “I had my chance at that. I was worse than Cordelia, I assure you.” Buffy rolled her eyes at the memories. She was trying to forget how shallow she was once upon a time. “So…it’s a Friday night, and I have no plans as of yet...” Buffy hoped Willow picked up the hint but the redhead appeared clueless. “That was a hint for you to tell me what you were up to, so I could find out if I should ask you to make plans with me…” “Oh. OH! Um…well, I was going to study, maybe play on the computer a little. I might rent a movie, or there’s the Bronze. I think Xander said something about wanting to go tonight.” Willow looked around for him but remembered he and Jesse had lunch detention. They had to help the lunch ladies slop out the mashed potatoes in the cafeteria today. “Cordelia mentioned something about the Bronze. I might check it out…but only if you promise to be my date.” Buffy looked at Willow’s dumbfounded look. “Well, I don’t wanna look like an idiot when I walk in the door by myself, do I? I’m entitled to maintain a little bit of shallowness.” “Well, I mean…” “Come on, Will…we’ll have fun. You can show me the rest of Sunnydale.” Buffy realized she’d already given the girl a nickname but the redhead didn’t seem to mind. “Um…okay.” Willow was still baffled by the date comment. “I guess so. I mean… I probably would’ve gone anyways because of Xander.” “Oh, are you and Xander…um…together?” Buffy didn’t mean to sound saddened by the news but the way the redhead talked about the boy, it appeared there was no shot at an eventual play for her new redheaded friend. ‘And she’s the only one that’s really piqued my interest…’ “No, I mean we did but we broke up.” Willow was so serious. “What happened?” Buffy’s curious nature tended to dig her heartbreak further. “He stole my Barbie.” At Buffy’s odd look, Willow explained. “Oh, we were five.” “So, which way is it to the Bronze? Should I pick you up, or vice versa?” Buffy switched subjects quick, or else she’d get ahead of herself. Her heart was already racing. “It’d probably be best if I picked you up. It’s only a few blocks to downtown from your house. Closer than mine.” Willow couldn’t believe she’d agreed to be sociable. “Great…how does eight sound? Unless you want dinner first. I’m sure mom wouldn’t mind. She was quite charmed by you. I’m afraid you’re going to be a good influence on me, Willow Rosenberg.” Buffy smirked, and couldn’t help the sexy tone her voice conveyed. It seemed natural to flirt with Willow. The most natural thing in the world.
