Autumn 2009 Challenge: Vampires with Bite! (x5)
« Thread Started on Sept 5, 2009, 4:42am »

This challenge is also sponsored by Cinequest!

The Autumn 2009 Challenge runs from September to end of November.

This challenge is to make customs of Vampires with no soul. This can be Angel or Spike at any point when they didn't have a soul (or were under the influence of evil... drugged/sleeper agent), Darla as vampire (not as resurrected human), Dru after being turned. These can be historical or modern day.

Any other vampires are fair game, for instance: The Master, or Luke, or Vamp Willow & Xander.

These can be human face or vamp face.

I've got several customs in mind for this already. I hope others will meet the challenge as well.

Rules for Customisers

1) You can state your ideas for what you intend to make. You can post in-progress photos, if you like, as well as finished photos.

2) Remember, this challenge is just to give us some unity during this Season. You are still encouraged to produce any custom you like that is un-related to this challenge and post it in its own thread.

3) If you post photos of your custom in this challenge thread, please don't also post it in a separate thread.

4) This challenge will last during the months of September to November only. Please plan to finish your figure by November 30th.

5) You can use any format of custom in this challenge. It can be Mini, Palz, 6", 12" or bust. It can be a single figure or a tableau of several figures.

6) Only photos of 600 pixels wide, or less, are accepted. Wider photos will be deleted.

Rules for Non-Customisers

Everyone is encouraged to comment on the works shown here. This thread is for chatting about the theme, posting photos and sharing ideas but please keep it on topic.

Gallery

This is a quick view of completed customs only. Please scroll through the thread for recipes, details, progress photos, multiple angels and reference photos. I'm showing them in the order in which they were completed.

If I manage to get any customising done this season, I may well put something up here. (Yes, I know, I said that last time...)

I'm making a Dru/Darla pair as a commission for Fran. Look out for Darla tomorrow!

People-Cellar Drusilla

I made Drusilla for the "Reunion" episode, where she and Darla surprise the Wolfram and Hart wine-tasting.

Reference

Dru: "Very sweet she was, like clover and honey."
Darla: "I believe you said something about a massacre."

Parts & Sculpt

I used a Drusilla figure with Willow arms and Cordy legs.

I slimmed down the legs, then sculpted her hair, top, trousers and coat. I removed the heels and gave her flat boots.

September 2009. Thanks to MAC and DST for the parts.

[image] [image]

Paint

I painted her to look like Dru. I used clear varnish for the shiny mottled effect on the trousers and the detail on her top.

She and Darla share a stand, with a wooden floor, rug and wine-rack.

She's great Sasha! I love seeing Dru/Darla customs, and you do them so well. The pose is perfect for the scene and you sculpted and painted her very well. The shiny effect works great with the clear gloss varnish.

Can't wait to see Darla!!! :)

Dru is great Sasha. I really like how you made her pants and top shiny and I think you gave her a great likness, the only thing I don't like is how you sculpted her legs. The position is just a little odd. I can't wait to see Darla.

Very beautiful Dru Sasha. A bit jealous of Fran ;) The only thing that looks odd is her right knee/lower leg, the positioning is just a bit off, but that is really a minor thing. Really lovely likeness.

I love this theme, I will definitely be making some for this one :)

Thanks for the comments. Yes, I did get Dru's right leg a bit bandy. Cest la vie!

Here's Darla...

Parts & Sculpt

I used a Willow figure with a Darla head.

I smoothed over the joins in her legs. I sculpted her curly hair, top and trousers.

September 2009. Thanks to MAC and DST for the parts

[image] [image]

Paint

I painted her to look more like Darla, giving the arched eyebrow to Holland. I used paint effects for her sheer top and burnished gold trousers.

Kakistos - "Faith, Hope & Trick"

Here's another character who was on my to-do list, and was the first Vamp I jumped onto when learning of this season's challenge. I always thought he a had a unique look, and would be fun to make.

He's made from a Master head, MAC Spike Torso/Coat, Arthur Dent arms, Nightcrawler hands, and Demon Giles legs. I'm quite lucky that there were decent parts out there to make the cloven hands and feet...

I sculpted his goatee, hair and scar (by bulding up sculpy around the eye area and then cutting out the middle), and also beefed up his jawline to get rid of the pointy shape of the Master's head. i'm particularly happy with the painted detail on his face.

I sculpted his cassock/jacket details and gave a couple of paintings to create the leather effect - the first layer was just red, the second an almost-marbled/not quite mixed red&brown blend, which I think works. Unfortunately, some of my efforts to sculpt folds in his coat have wound up looking like I simply sculpted it badly. Oh well, live and learn.

Hopefully I'll get another vamp or two into this challenge beofre it's done!

That's super work on Kakistos, dman. It looks just like him. I'm really impressed.

Here's my new Dru...

Happy-Birthday Drusilla & Pile-of-Dust Angel

I made Drusilla for the "Surprise" episode, in Buffy's nightmare.

Reference

"Happy Birthday, Buffy."

Parts & Sculpt

I used a Vampire Drusilla mini-bust with a Buffy hand and my skirt cast.

I sculpted her sheer black dress over white. I gave her hair more wave and body.

September 2009. Thanks to MAC for the parts.

[image] [image]

Paint

I painted her with a slight smile as she dusts Angel with her stake. She has a black and white manicure.

The stand is painted grey with birthday balloons. I sculpted a pile of dust for Angel, with a Claddagh ring on top picked out in silver.

A great Kakistos, especially impressive given the change of likeness from one monster to another. and a creepy-as-heck Dru.

I should be able to do something in... the next couple weeks... maybe...

"Surprise" Drusilla is amazing Sasha, I can't find a single flaw. The sculpting. the painting, and the likeness are all dead-on.

Leaving-with-the-Stallion Darla

I'm working on a historical Darla figure for Robin at the moment. She's from the flashback in the Angel Season 2 episode "Darla", where she leaves the Master for the upstart Angel.

Reference

"We fed very recently. The blood is still hot in his veins."

Parts & Sculpt

I used a Darla head and forearms, Anyanka sleeves, DST Buffy torso and my skirt cast.

I sculpted her wig, scarf, dress and bag. I used two stakes glued together for the fan she's holding.

October 2009. Thanks to MAC and DST for the parts.

[image] [image]

Here are some "in progress" shots of the sculpting process.

I'll have the painting finished tomorrow.
