Here you go, guys...

General

1. While it is nice of DST to offer freebies for DST shop orders, international fans are scouring eBay and paying inflated prices. Is DST ever going to throw open the DST shop to International collectors?

DSTChuck: There are several problems currently that prohibit us from selling international not the least of which is the fact that we do not have worldwide rights to sell Buffy or Angel products.

2. You just announced Steve the Wraith as a mail-in figure for the Stargate: Atlantis line-up. That's very cool. Is there any chance that a similar offer can be put together for the Buffy or Angel lines for a fan-favorite character? You could do it retroactively for any four UPC codes sent in for existing figures, you get a free figure, or you could combine this with The Judge waves to encourage stores to purchase both case sets, or even with the Willows.

DSTChuck: The idea WAS by offering the Jude it would encourage sales, the Stargate line has been budgeted for a mail in figure IF we were to offer something like this for Buffy we would have to find a way to pay for it be lowering the cost of the figures.

3. Who does DST classify as core characters in the Buffy/Angel-verse, as you have previously stated that you have made all core characters in figure form. Is it characters that have appeared in the main title of the shows? If so why haven't we seen figures of Riley, Gunn, Harmony, Doyle and Connor?

DSTChuck: While many fans may love the characters listed we do not consider any of them “core” to the show, that said if sales remained strong as we move down the list we always have said we’d do EVERY character.

4. Do you plan to unveil new Buffy/Angel product at SDCC?

DSTChuck: We showed a ton at Toy Fair so there should be some but maybe not as much as their has been in the past.

5. Do you plan any Buffy/Angel exclusive at SDCC? The last time I was at the Con, I didn’t know about the bagged exclusive until I got home and online.

DSTChuck: As of now, NO – but that’s something we usually decide pretty last minute and surprise people with.

6. Who would you say, offhand, are the most popular characters in terms of merchandise sales, in vaguely approximate order?

DSTChuck: Buffy, Angel, Spike, Willow, Faith.

7. With characters such as Faith and Spike who were both good and evil at different times of the show's run, would you say that overall you market them as heroes or villains, or is it entirely episode-specific?

DSTChuck: We don’t market them as either – that’s for the fans to decide that’s the cool thing about what Joss created, it means different things to different people.

8. With the exclusive SDCC blood drive figures, is there any way to get them for those of us who are there at the convention but for medical reasons aren't allowed to give blood? Say, giving a cash donation to the Red Cross?

DSTChuck: Seems like a good idea but that’s something you would have to discuss with the staff onsite, we just donate those figures to them, they decide how best to use them.

9. Before Palisades folded, there were plans to produce beanie demons and a plush stake. Is anything like that possible under your plush license? Or, say, mini-sized Puppet Angel?

DSTChuck: DST has made several plush items in the past but as of now we have no more planned for Buffy.

10. Was the Mr. Gordo patterned after the actual screen-used prop, or photos of it, or was it a DST creation for what Gordo might have looked like, since it's extremely difficult to tell what he looked like on screen?

DSTChuck: We used the several screen garb programs we have at our disposal to make the item as accurate as possible and we think we did a pretty good job but your right there were not many good images to pull from.

Regular Line

11. If the regular line is ending. Does that mean no more boxsets either?

DSTChuck: Box sets are still possible.

12. Any chance of making Grudge Match deluxe two-packs like the Marvel Legends Face Off’s with a nice big floor base?

DSTChuck: No plans for anything like that.

13. Do you think we'll see Riley, Gunn, Harmony and/or Connor in the near future in any figure form?

DSTChuck: At DST we never say never but I would say chances are not good.

14. Would DST consider doing a monster line?

DSTChuck: Its something we looked at in the past but never went forward with.

15. Even if the regular line is ending, will DST still make two packs and boxset in the future with reused parts and maybe a new sculpt in each set? Giving the fan some new characters in the old MAC style like Gunn, Harmony, the Mayor?

DSTChuck: Its POSSIBLE.

16. Can you just make it clear weather or not you will be continuing the regular ANGEL wave or is that dead along with the BTVS regular line?

DSTChuck: As an ongoing release or line the “Mac style” line will not be continuing in Angel OR Buffy.

Revamped Line

17. What's the price point on the Revamped Line?

DSTChuck: We’re not 100% sure yet BUT it will be a higher SRP then the existing figures.

18. What's the frequency on the release for revamped? Once a year? Twice a year?

DSTChuck: Sales will dictate it BUT we’d be happy if it supported two releases per year.

19. Will Revamped Series 1 be only Buffy and Angel or will you had one or two other characters?

DSTChuck: Series 1 is just Angel and Buffy.

20. Is there any chance for new characters in the Revamped line like Jenny, Lilah, the Beast, etc?

DSTChuck: While it's certainly possibl, but I would not count on it.

Deluxe Line

21. Why are you only planning one Deluxe line a year? It seems that you would want to release more lines in a year now that the "regular" line is dead.

DSTChuck: We’ve always released one wave of dlx each summer and since that’s done so well for us we figured why mess with a tradition.

22. Could the deluxe come with little stand to help them stand straight as it would really help

DSTChuck: We’ve absolutely considered that, so far we have not included one but we might.

23. Would it be possible to go the same way as the Marvel Legends line and add a build-a-figure in each deluxe wave?

DSTChuck: We have no plans for anything like that.

24. Will DST make more then one deluxe wave a year?

DSTChuck: Right now all plans are to keep it to one wave per year.

25. Is it possible that you might eventually produce some Deluxe monsters?

DSTChuck: Its possible.

26. What's the likelihood of seeing a Deluxe Illyria?

DSTChuck: Its possible.

Resin Projects

27. How could there not be enough interest in the bookends?! WE NEVER SAW PICTURES OF THEM!!!!!!

DSTChuck: The item was shown to buyer – sorry but we have no reason to spend money sculpting, designing and prototyping an item then cancel it just to be "mean."

28. With the Spike Essence statue: is the flame of his lighter also illuminated?

DSTChuck: A bulb will not fit in it but it will glow…

29. At Wizard World, the teddy bear that was on the ground in front him in previous photos was behind his coat. Is it a separate, removable piece, or was that accidental? What is that teddy bear supposed to signify? Is he Evil Spike who just killed a child and left destruction in his wake, or is he Good or Semi-Good Spike who just fought off the demons who were attacking the innocent?

DSTChuck: It was not an accident it is a key part of the pieces design – you decide what it stands for!

29. I've noticed that the busts (from Tara onward) are now barely larger scale than the figures, as are the Essence Of statues and the Revamped, and even some of the figures such as Fred and Dawn seem to be this "new" scale. Is it an artistic decision to sculpt everything in the same scale, or is there a big advantage in production and/or costs?

DSTChuck: Essence and re-Vamped are 7” scale and Dlx and Mac are 6” scale.

30. What size batteries do the Essence statues take, and how many?

DSTChuck: We’re not sure yet, but might be three or four.

31. If the Essence statues do well, is there a chance in the future to get an unvamped Spike and/or a vamped Angel?

DSTChuck: Anything’s possible if the line is a success.

32. I realized that I still haven't seen anything official from DST saying why/if the snowglobe was cancelled. So what's the official word?

DSTChuck: Its canceled.

33. Are the release dates for the Essence statues staggered every couple months because of marketing reasons or production reasons?

DSTChuck: We hope it gives all collectors some time to re-stock their piggie banks.

Serenity

34. As far as the Serenity license goes, how fast would this first statue have to sell to yield more statues?

DSTChuck: IF we waited to see sell through at retail it would be until about 6 months later then we’d be able to offer out second piece.

A huge thanks to Chuck at DST for giving us another great Ask Diamond!

Cool Ask Diamond. I'm glad that there are still possibilities of two-packs and boxsets for the regular line. Although, it's a shame the chances of getting Riley, Harmony and Gunn aren't good and that we'll still only be getting one deluxe line per year. Oh well, maybe in time they'll change their minds. Who knows what might happen. :)

Thanks Chuck, CMK and DST for another great Ask Diamond! :)

Thank you for answering my question firstly.

"We don't have worldwide rights"?? I'd appreciate clarification on that. MAC seemed to retail them fine. Plus there are Diamond offices in London, I am unsure why they couldn't be used especially as they are cited as a contact address on UK Buffy product adverts. If there are no worldwide rights, how are the products being sold over here anyway?

Additionally, why has the DST shop had "International Shoppers' Note: We can only sell items to United States customers at this time. We are working towards providing our international customers with the ability to order directly from us. If you sign up for an account from a country other than the United States, we will let you know via email when we are able to accept non-US orders. Please contact us with any questions you might have." from it's creation if no work has been made to try to offer this service?

Wondering if it is poor country cousin syndrome... :-/

Okay so, Forbidden Planet does the main retailing of figures over here for DST, any chance that DST could work in conjunction with FP to allow freebies or specials to be collected even if by nominal or fair purchase price?

Oh well... better continue sculpting that Gunn head then hehe.

Not really good news to any of the questions I was interested in. Well my questions then:

If Gunn, Connor, Doyle, Riley and Harmony aren't considered to be the main characters then could we see a couple of them in a line like Kennedy and Kendra were in the Willow Line?

Do you have plans for who is going to be in the next deluxe line after Willow/Kennedy/Kendra? If so can you tell us if the characters are male or female or from Angel or BTVS?

DST uses different distribution companies in other countries since Diamond Distributors is US-only as far as I know. They've mentioned previously that recent waves were delayed in Australia because of the distributor there, not their choice. I imagine the lack of international shipping for the online store is partly logistical, and partly that they don't want to hurt the international markets by providing competition.

Question for the next one: What factors does DST look at to decide to produce lesser characters (such as say Riley)... sales of secondary characters like the upcoming Kennedy?

As a long-time collector, I have so many variations of the main characters like Buffy and Angel that I have little interest in buying more figures of the same characters again. I'm worried that not buying these same characters again will hurt chances of getting new characters... so are secondary characters judged based on overall sales or what?

Bummer, I was hoping for news about more deluxe figures. Hopefully they will show more at SDCC but the new stuff won't be available till next year. I don't know how DST will hold the interest of collectors by releasing one assortment of deluxe per year.

I too was hoping for more Deluxe lines a year. One a summer just isn't enough. The whole revamped line doesn't seem very promising with having two figures in each wave and only two waves a year. This means that we will only get 4 revamped figures a year and 6 or more Deluxe figures. I wish that they would reconsider their idea about the Deluxe line.

As for the whole no Gunn, Harmony, Riley or Connor thing, I'm thinking that at least one or two of these figures will make it into Deluxe form. They just don't want to spoil any future lines by announcing them too early. I just hope that after the Deluxe figures come out in the summer that they announce and present the next Deluxe line.

With saying that it is possible for an Illyria Deluxe figure I am thinking that Fred, Gunn and Connor would be perfect for that wave (Giving us better Fred figures and two characters in which the possibilities were non existent according to DST). This would also allow the next line to be Riley, Harmony and Adam (Giving us the other two characters that we want as well as a villian). I just hope that the next lines after this are to include Anya, Tara, Cordelia, Giles, Xander, Buffy and even Andrew, Warren, Jonathan, The Mayor, Caleb and Darla. The possibilities with the Deluxe line are endless but they really need to have more than one line a year. They should replaced the regular line with the Deluxe line as I am not liking the revamped line very much.

I'm really hoping to get deluxe Illyria soon! I agree Buffyfannumerouno that Illyria, Fred, Gunn and Connor would be great Angel-wave. I know I would buy them all, esp. Illyria!

Although I have a lot of old figures to buy I still wish they would make two deluxe waves each year. I can't wait a whole year to get the new ones! I hate waiting...

I'm not so interested about revamped line, just because I've seen couple pictures of them and I just can't help thinking that it cost a lot of money to send them to Finland from US. Or even from England... Well, I just have to wait and see how much and hope I'll be rich when they are released! :D

I feel the same way, I thought that the deluxe line was going to replace the other line. Or at least have two waves a year. And as I have no interest in the Willow line I thought that with two waves a year there would be more of a chance that I'd like the characters being offered for the line.

I'd like to think so but I'm not as hopeful. Not with the way they worded it. If they don't see it possible to make these characters line headers then I can certainly see them being the Kenda/Kennedy/Wood types. I'd like to have more but I'd buy at least two of each. Maybe more, for displaying and customing.

I was a little surprised that they said that it was possible for a deluxe Illyria but I'd be happy with a Illyria/Fred/another character line. But if I had to guess I'd say that the other character would be female unless they are breaking the trend of the other lines. I'd like to see (Illyria)/Fred/Cordelia (did not like the last Cordelias) and either Gwen or Harmony. Gunn/Connor and/or Doyle sometime within the next few lines.

Unless the revamped line adds new characters, has better sculpts, backrounds (like the hotel), and/or fan favorite episode figures I'm not sure if I'll be getting them.

Hmmmm. After this long of a wait for an Ask Diamond, I figured they would be able to tell us more than "it's possible" on a lot of the questions. I am encouraged by the news that we could get some of the "fan-favorite" core characters in boxsets(I realize that Joyce was in many episodes, but were we as fans REALLY clammering for her to be made?). I believe they can still make their money back by giving us at least 4 more popular characters that were never made.

I'm hoping they won't wait too long after the Dlx, and Revamped lines come out to announce who they're making next.

I remember tons of fans really seemed to want Joyce. I wasnt so enthusiastic about campaigning for her...I wanted her but figured it was a lost cause so didnt even bother.

I think its VERY important that everyone who might want to see more figures get made...go out and buy all the figures from the Willow and Judge waves that you want as soon as they are released. Dont wait around, if you can avoid it. I think if we can make these some of the fastest selling lines, then theres a really good chance this wont be the end. So if you know you're going to buy some figures from the Judge wave or if you are on the fence...go out and get them as soon as they are released. And if you arent sure if you want any...try really hard to convince yourself to buy at least one.

Question for next Ask DST:

What's the status of the Deluxe Willow "exclusives?" "Halloween," pink fuzzy Vamp, and "Tough Love?" When can we expect to get these figures?

I second that question as well as what will happen with "Enemies" Faith, "Sanctuary" Faith, "Grave" Giles, "New Moon Rising" Oz and "Surprise" Drusilla? (It seems possible to put the two Faith Figures in a 2 pack as their bases connect but the other three have no connection)

When will the next Deluxe Line be announced as well as shown?

Can you at least tell us if the next Deluxe Line will be mainly from ANGEL or will they be from BUFFY?

Are you done with the Buffy Busts for good or are the just on hold for now?

When will the next ornaments be annonced? (if they are actually still being produced that is)

I also have the question about the Serenity Statues, now that River and Inara have been shown. Is there a possibility that Zoe or Kaylee will be next or will we get a Mal or Jayne Statue?

I really want to find out what the next Deluxe wave will be. It feels like we haven't had an announcement on new figures in ages. I'm hoping for a Riley and a Harmony even if our chances aren't good. If not both then at least one of them anyway, both would be my dream line. :)

We should be getting a Deluxe announcement anytime soon or as soon as series 3 hits stores like it was last year and the year before.

I too do not understand what other characters there are to be made into figure form. As they have stated above that certain characters are unlikely. I'm thinking that a Deluxe Gunn/Fred/Illyria/Connor line and then a Riley/Harmony/Adam line followed then after that with a Dawn/Tara/Andrew line then a Cordelia/Anya/Halfrek line, a Xander/Giles/Caleb line and then other characters as well as more Buffy, Willow, Faith and Angel figures. Although it seems as though to make more money each year with keeping the line alive it would be smarter to have at least 2 Deluxe lines a year if not 3. I could see with the regular line not having that many as some of the sculpts and pieces were different, however the Deluxe line reuses a lot of parts.

With wanting to see certain versions of characters such as "Once More With Feeling" Tara, "The House Always Wins" Lornette Fred, "Warzone" Gunn, "A New World" Connor, "You're Welcome" Cordelia (cream outfit), "The Wish" Buffy, "The Gift" Buffy, "Grave" Buffy, "Selfless" Anyanka, "Selfless" Anya, "Chosen" Anya, "Chosen" Dawn, "Potential" Dawn, "Grave" Dawn, "All the Way" Pirate Xander, "All the Way" Charlie's Angels Anya, "Hell's Bells" Tuxedo Xander, "Once More With Feeling" Pajama Xander, "Once More With Feeling" Pajama Anya, one Turok Han or more, a Bringer or 2, Caleb, Hamilton, Jasmine, The Beast, Halfrek, Clem, Ethan Rayne, as well as so many others, it only makes sense to make more than one line a year.
