Here's the very first Ask Diamond of 2006! :)

1. With Tara and Anya having scans, does that mean there is a chance new figures will be made with them?

It's true we did scan Tara again a couple years ago, but we don't have any new Anya scans. Having or not having a scan is not the primary factor in deciding if we're going to create product.

2. If the new Buffy figures hit strong, is there a chance another set of 5 Buffy could be made? Maybe even from an Angel episode?

Sure...but some time would pass before we hit Buffy again that hard.

3. Do Sarah Michelle Gellar or Michelle Trachtenberg have any plans to assist in the sales of the figures? Ect, sign figures?

We have not spoken to either actress about something like that.

4. Will the season 5 Dawn we get from the Box Set be shorter then "Lessons Dawn?"

The Dawns will be taller than Buffy.

5. Will we see any show exclusives, another 2 pack or another boxset with the Buffy/Dawn line?

Never say never, but we don't have any more planned right now.

6. Why was the Buffy/Dawn wave's general release date pushed back?

Michelle and Sarah both had full approval rights to their figures. Both were very responsive and helpful, however, the massive amount of figures we were working on proved a challenge to get fully approved in the time frame we allocated.

7. If you ever do a non-deluxe series with Faith in it what are your thoughts on a Faith from the episode "Who Are You" when she was played by Sarah Michelle Gellar?

Nice episode, but not something we would be thinking of for a main line release.

8. When will you announce what the next series of ornaments will be?

Not for a while still.

9. What are the newest release dates for the Library, the Buffy/Dawn wave and the Xander/Cordelia wave?

Library and Buffy/Dawn are looking good for Spring. Xander/Cordy is still a little early to lock down, but I can tell you all the sculpting and painting is done for the prototypes and they are with the actors for approval.

10. In Ask Diamond 33, you said the next bust would be announced once the Spike bust was shipped, and if I'm not mistaken, it has shipped. How long until the announcement?

Tara is next!

11. When will you know if you can start working on a new playset?

We should have a good idea of the Library's sales by summer.

12. Now that the 'Destiny' Spike/Angel Deluxes have been announced, can we expect any other Spike or Angels in that lineup (As in other Variants), or is that it?

Deluxe Series 2 will be a full release, so yes, there will be variants.

13. Is the Summers Family boxset planned to be released the same time as buffy/dawn or xan/cordy?

That's going to be the decision of the retail partners. Sooner rather than later works for us though.

14. What will the production run for the Summer's Family Album be?

Not 100% sure yet. We need to discuss with our partners, but no less than 3K and no more than 5K is the range we're looking at.

15. When we will see a picture of Joyce's figure?

As soon as we have the final partner lined up!

16. Will the Glory figure in The Gift two-pack come with a removable robe?

Nope.

17. What are the expected prices for the twopacks and box sets?

Same as previous releases: $30 for the twopack and $45 for the box set.

18/. Any chance of a signed Angel, Illyria, or Fred available through the store?

None of those were done prior to release, so...sorry, no chance now.

19. Will Cordelia be tossed into any box sets or 2-packs, giving us more then 3? Will we see Angel 2 packs ever?

At this second there are no plans for a Cordy twopack - again never say never. We don't plan out sets/waves or specials by show. It's by expected demand, so there is no reason why we wouldn't do a Angel twopack or box set someday.

20. Will any of the facial sculpts on the Xanders and Cordelias being smiling? (ala Buffybot, Lessons Dawn) Perhaps maybe Princess Cordy or Ice Cream Man Xander?

There are a mix of expressions.

21. Will there be another line of Angel figures in 2006?

Again, each wave features versions from both shows, but if you mean the core figures - its a little too early to discuss those.

22. I know it is early, but is there any idea of the next line, and also, will it be Buffy or angel based?

If you mean after Xander/Cordy - yes its too early to say, but I will tell you the sculpts are well underway. In fact, one has been sent to Fox already!

23. Is the Serenity line dead forever?

I think all the Browncoats know better than to say dead forever.

24. Will DST develop a system where the Non-US fans will actually receive the free gift that you send to those in the US?

Its very tricky - DST's license is not worldwide on Buffy. In fact, we don't even have the UK license - our distributor does. We work on that stuff when we can and with their co-operation in the past we've been able to help some fans out.

25. Will DST allow Non-US fans to shop at your online store?

We're working on it and it's a goal for 06, but see above question.

26. What line has been the most successful from BUFFY, and from ANGEL?

We don't view the properties like that.

27. Can you give us a rundown of all the action figure licenses DST has now?

Buffy/Angel, Marvel, Stargate, Star Trek, Dawn, Kabuki, Top Cow, Serenity, and Street Fighter...I think that's it.

I was just about to post the same thing! I really hope it is OMWF Tara. I think it almost has to be...
I am a little upset that Glory wont have any robes but I can easily fix that...!!project!!

Tara Bust!!! This is fantastic. She is the character I most want as a bust, but if it's not based on her outfit from OMWF I think I may just die. Really hope it is! Too bad that Glory doesn't come with the robe, but I am feeling optimistic about the Serenity line. Their comment sounds like they may consider doing another line at some point.

TARA! Oh my god! Thank you DST! THANK YOU! I want to see "Once More With Feeling" and "Seeing Red" or "Restless". I am so happy to hear the news, and can't wait to see pictures and stuff! These will be the busts I buy for sure.

A bit confused about the Dawn height... if "Interventions", "The Gift" and "Once More With Feeling" Dawn are all taller then Buffy, I'm not sure how it will look. Since "Lessons" Dawn should really be the only taller one.

Everything else sounds great, a little dogey on a few questions, but I have high hopes for the Xander/Cordelia line.

YAY! Tara! I'm also hoping for OMWF. I'm glad the boxset isn't too expensive and I think it's cool that they already have a sculpt finished for the line after Xander/Cordy.

I'm glad that Tara is the next bust, I am just wondering what the two versions will be. I just hope that one is at least from "Once More With Feeling" as for the other one I'm really not sure what the other one I would want but I'm sure that DST will choose a good one.

I'm kind of disappointed about Glory not coming with a removeable robe, but then again they can always add one and make her a show exclusive.

As for the Cordelia figures I am sure that we will see more Cordy figures as she will sell very well. I just hope that we can see pics of Joyce and Buffy Vs Dracula Buffy, I am really anxious to see what they look like. True they say that they don't have any more planned right now, that isn't to say that they can't change thier mind. I hope that they do, I'd love to see a Buffy from "The Gift" in a 2 pack with Glory with a removeable gown. Or even Primeval Buffy with Adam, Buffybot with Shirtless Spike, Buffy with Angel, or a Buffy with red dress Glory, maybe even a Buffy with Caleb (as they have a scan of Nathan and all).

It's nice to see that they are not saying never to the idea of another 2 pack, boxset, or show exclusive. I was really wondering if it were possible, as I for one would love to see more Buffys, even if they are repaints as well as another Dawn.

About Serenity, I wonder if they will ever make more figures. I think that releasing boxsets would be cool for the rest of the characters. Or even if we see Buffy/Angel figures from the scans for Caleb, Jasmine and Hamilton, that would make me extremely happy.

Tara!! Omg.... that's the best news! I was really hoping for Willow, but Tara (to me) is possibly even better, i just thought she would be unlikely... it's a good thing i'm wrong ;)
I think a OMWF Tara is probably going to happen... but any Tara is great honestly, hope they will do a good job on these
Apart from that not much interesting news, i like the fact that Dawn will be (a bit) taller than Buffy (well, Lessons at least), and i guess "Sure...but some time would pass before we hit Buffy again that hard" can mean that they are still hoping to keep doing the Buffy line for a few more years

This seemed like a pretty informative Ask Diamond, even if the answers weren't exactly what I wanted to hear.

I think they are really missing the boat by not including a Glory robe for The Gift. That's such a key accessory.

I'm psyched they will have variants for the Deluxe line. Since we'll have regular figures and battle damaged figures, I wonder what kind of variants they'll have. It will probably be repaints, but I'm dreaming of old-fashioned Angelus and Spikes. I'm probably dumb to get my hopes up, though.

That's excellent that the Cordy and Xander figures are done and just getting approved. I'm also really happy to hear that there will be a mix of expressions. That's music to a customizer's heart! Hopefully, Pylean Princess Cordy will have a big smile.

I think they gave a logical answer for why the international collectors have been shut out of DST shipping and exclusives. It's a licensing issue. We certainly can't fault them for that.

I just can't believe how long we have to wait for the next figures. Spring?!?! That's forever.

I wonder what the line is that they are working on. Has anyone heard rumors? It should have Gunn, but probably won't. They'd be smart to do a WitW Cordy, Angel, and Gunn boxset. But I won't hold my breath.

It seems like the one really major character who hasn't been done is Giles.

I'm in the dark on this one.

That's kind of promising about the 'serenity' figures. Maybe they're waiting to see if strong dvd sales result in a sequel? And i'm glad they're open to maybe making more buffy, dawn and cordy figures for boxsets etc.


I don't get their answer about not shipping overseas (granted i have no idea how licensing works). Sideshow ship overseas, as do other usa retailers, so why not DST?

Questions:
When will the varients for the Tara busts be announced?
If the two-pack with Glory does well, is there chance that you would go back and re-do her in her signature red dress?
Is there chance for another Serenity line?. I know a lot of people who are dieing for a River.

If DST is definitely going to make a bust of Willow, Xander, and Giles, then making a bust of Tara first does not bother me. However, there is no guarantee that busts of those characters (especially Giles) will be made, and Tara is NOT as important as them. It's not even up for dispute. For the record, I don't think a bust of Oz should have been made so early either. I'm just worried that the line will end before busts are made of the show's main characters. And that would suck BIG TIME.



So, here's my question for Ask Diamond 36...

I love Tara, and it hurts to say, but I agree. I am oddly surprised at Oz and Tara getting busts. But I understand Tara getting one, well, more Amber Benson. She has been the most in-works with DST from what I've heard. Her, Julie Benz and Andy Hallett.
I hope that getting Oz and Tara hints a Willow in the works. Maybe even a connectable Willow/Tara OMWF busts, like, their hands holding, or something.
I want to see a Xander bust, and a Giles busts. But they can't send all the main characters at once, so giving characters like Tara busts after releasing the big players (Spike and Buffy) is a nice change, espesclly for fans of those characters.

I trust DST will give us Willow and Xander at least. After Tara, I bet we see a big-character... or Glory.

Yeah, if less significant characters and demons are simply being placed in between the main characters to spice things up a bit, then GREAT. However, if any of the show's main characters aren't made, I'm going to be EXTREMELY disappointed. Some people who collect the Sideshow line have expressed similar concerns, and I think they are legitimate. Why would I want to have a display that is missing a character as important as Xander? Or Giles?* They've both been right there in the thick of things FROM DAY ONE. I'm most worried about Giles.

*I'd include Willow, but I am confident a bust of her will be made.
