Here's Ask Diamond #31! :)

Will we see any more Monster busts at all?

We don't have anything we're working on now, but that doesn't mean we won't do more monsters.

Is there any chance, ever, that The Trio will be made? Maybe in a boxset?

To be honest, the chances are pretty slim, but you never know!

How does DST select its licenses? Is there anything that fans could do to encourage DST to look into acquiring a certain license?

We look for evergreens or established franchises that fit our portfolio. The best way fans can get our attention is simply bu showing their devotion to the properties they love.

How does DST select the "standard" character for each line? We've had season 2 Lorne (Judgment), season 3 Fred (The Price), season 4 Wesley (Release) and season 5 Angel (various). Is DST attempting to cross the spectrum of seasons, or does this happen by accident?

No and no, if that makes sense! We have done more with the later seasons since MAC did many of the early seasons with their past releases, but it's not something set in stone, and we look at LOTS of stuff when we set which versions of a character we'll work on.

We have heard rumors that there is a boxset of Buffy, Dawn and Joyce and a two-pack of Glory and Dawn. Can you confirm this?

Hmmm. Let me go ask Matt and get back to you. Not sure there would even be interest in those...

So far every Buffy line has had a boxset, but Angel has had none, will this trend continue?

Nope. It's been a coincidence more than a conscious decision.

Have you/Would you ever consider making a Beast action figure?

Nothing in the works right now. Sorry.

Is the Buffy/Dawn line still on track for a Christmas release?

To be honest, I hate to say it, but Buffy/Dawn will NOT make Christmas due to a combination of factors. We'll get back with you on a new release date as soon as we can. Rest assured that these were unique circumstances that should not delay assortments in the future.

Since there's a Chosen Willow, Buffy, Spike and probably Xander, when he's made, will DST go back and make a "Chosen Anya"?

Right now we have no plans to go back to Anya, but you never know.

Will you ever put a character you've already made into another line (for example, Buffy Series 12 being Xander 5/Anya 3)?

Again, NEVER is such a broad word, but nothing like that is planned for now.

Since Spike and Angel are being turned Deluxe, does that mean there is a chance characters from early lines (Willow, Anya, Darla) have a chance to be made Deluxe as well?

We'll keep going one asst at a time with the Deluxe line, but we're looking at some of those characters, as well as some new ones.

Since Drusilla was already made by MAC, does that mean we shouldn't get any hopes up for her?

I wouldn't get them up if I were you.

Ever consider giving characters with long skirts leg articulation, maybe with a soft rubber skirt that allows it to bend?

The upcoming Once More, With Feeling Dawn and Buffybot figures both feature long skirts/dress that will be made of the same flexible material we've used in the past for hair and clothing. They will also have fully articulated legs underneath.

According to your last Q&A, Buffy vs Dracula Buffy and Becoming Buffy busts were supposed to be released on schedule (which was September)...it's already October. Is there a concrete release date for these two busts?

Dracula is in stores now. We lost a little time moving it around warehouses. Unfortunately, the Becoming is now set for a spring release.

When do you expect to release Puppet Vampire Angel?

Sometime next year.

Any chance for a Serenity Ship like the Enterprise?

Sorry, no.

Does your Buffy license include snow globes or bookends?

We have SEVERAL Buffy & Angel licenses, and yes, one includes both those categories.

In the Cordy/Xander wave, who will have more variants? Or will they have the same number of figures?

Xander will have more variants than Cordelia, but only because Cordelia's variants required a lot more unique sculpting.

I know you can't announce the variants yet, but is Cordelia going to be from both Buffy and Angel, or just a Buffy focus for now?

Characters will be presented as they appeared on both shows (in this case, of course, not Xander).

Is DST opposed to including a big bad (like Glory or The First) in the core assortment of a future Buffy wave?

I don't know what you mean by opposed, BUT we have no plans right now to do that.

Very good Ask!

So the 5 Xander/3 Cordelia is how it will be...interesting. The Unique scults lead me to beleive we will get a Pylea Princess Cordelia atleast, and maybe a Pregnaty Cordelia along with a standard Season 4, or better yet, a S5 Cordy

So they are saying that's a 'no' for joyce and glory? Why do they think they'd be of no interest? From the people on this board there seems to be plenty of interest! Now i'm all curious about the boxset and two pack. It's just gonna be made up of dawns and buffys?

I wanted 5 xanders, so i'm happy. I was hoping that we'd get 3 cordy's now and then they'd do her again in the angel line. 3 doesn't seem enough for her at all, especially as it's covering her time on both shows.

This has pissed me off. Talk about lazy! So we are going to get 3 Cordelia sculpts and then 5 Xanders and have what, 4 of them the same? God... Talk about cheap and lazy... I am just to pissed to think right now!

Sometimes i just don't know how to take the person who does the replies to the ask diamond. With so many questions their answer seems to be "no that's not right" or "don't get your hopes up", so i automatically assume the worst!

These two answers worry me a bit.

First, the next bust is due in Spring 2006 (Meaning, it's no longer a January release). Secondly, Buffy and Dawn's new release date would be announced soon, so I guess it might be quite longer than just a few weeks delay.

I really hope I'm wrong with assumption. :-/

They are very expensive to make, so I understand the reasons why. Would you rather have 5 different Cordelia all with slightly different paintjobs/har cuts or 3 extremly different episode specific figures?

I can see the Xander wave now. Season 7 Xander, Chosen Xander, Hells Bells Xander, Vampire Xander, and Xander with blue shirt.

I'm going to repost my question from #30 cause they didn't make it on there. Also I really want a new dru, i think the old one sold poorly only cause of the way it looked not soo much as who the character was.

I know it's probably too late but I just got Fred/Illyria today and she's way too tall and big all around. So these are my questions..

1. If you were to make a box set for Fred/ Illyria could you fix the scale or are we stuck with over dosed on Flintstone chewables Fred?
2. Obviously Fred's size was a mistake, how did it happen and was anyone fired for it?
3. Has this scale error been fixed or should we expect a jolly green giant size Dawn and Buffy?
4. On your 5th season Angel you have a molded soft plastic shirt, is there any way you could not do that again? or is this a continuing trend?
5. Is there anyway to bring back skin shading to the paint schemes (i.e. old mac style), instead of a flat one tone flesh color?

Also I want to make clear I'm in no way trying to be negative, so before anyone starts saying if I can't say something nice don't say it at all. I was just really disappoint when I got my figures today. And I feel it necessary to ask these questions so future products can be improved upon.

What's wrong with the rubber shirt? Not only does it allow for articulation around it but it makes the figures cheaper to make and allows for more variants.

I'm saying this in advance I know angel is suppose to be bulker because david himself got bulker. However I feel he is too bulky as do I feel the same for Wesley. I can't imagine how bulky the vampire Angel is going to be considering he already has the bulky shirt but then to have a bulky jacket on top of it. Now on the other hand Vampire SPike and the deluxe figures look fine with their rubber wear.

It's obviously something they haven't perfected (Wes and Lorne as examples of earlier attempts) but look at Buffy and Angel, they're getting a lot better.

I must admit the thickness in angel shirt is a lot better then Wes'. I'm still crying over fred/illyria's size, they don't even look like they belong with the rest of Buffy/Angel Line.

Can you be any more rude? You think those questions will be answered, or even read? I understand you may be mad, but a simple question like "Why was Fred taller then any other figure" would have been alot better, and may actually BE answered.

I'll start:

With the release of Fred/Illyria, alot of members have noticed both figures are considerably taller then any other DST Buffy/Angel figure to date. Was there a reason for this or what it possibly a factory error?

Is the new set of 5 Ornaments still on track for a December release?

Is there a chance we will see statues episode specific states? (Faith, Dark Witch Willow, Gentlemen for example)

When can we expect to see prototype pictures of the Xander/Cordelia wave?

If the 'wall' dioramas become a standard in future figures, will peg holes be added? Or any chance of matching up certain figures that make a larger diorama (Like if you placed a Xander Cordelia next to each other but walls would form a picture)?

Once again thanks for the insider information.

Ask 32:

-Any chance the Buffy/Dawn line's base back boards could have something on it, to allow it to be pinned onto the wall?

-Do you know when you will be shipping to Canada?

-If a Spike movie is made, will you consider doing action figure for it aswell?

-Any chance you will ever consider doing action figures for the original movie? (Buffy, Pike, Merrik)

Wow vampirestake I guess you didn't read the disclaimer stating:

I'm dissappointed with the scale of Fred/Illyria but I guess these things occasionally happen (like the squished head MAC Angel II). Once the mold is cut, they can't fix the problem. Now I'm not looking forward to any more Fred varients.

Hmmmm.

Thanks DST and CMK.

Re: Cordelia's less variants. Kind of expected. Each "classic" Cordelia is so radically different from the other, BUT Buffy got a variety of different looks, so still dissapointed the same couldn't be done for Cordelia.

Really not fussed on Xander variants apart from Chosen and Vampire.

Other than that, not much news. Would have liked something a tad more solid re Angel boxed sets. Eg, a boxed set will be done for the next, as yet unannounced, Angel series.

Ask Diamond 32:

1. When will Xander and Cordelia's variants be announced?

2. How will Cordelia's variants be distributed between her Buffy and Angel appearances? Eg one (1) Buffy based variant and two (2) Angel based variants.

3. Has the production size error with Fred (and Illyria) changed DST's plans for any future Fred figures either in boxed sets or as some form of exclusive?

Cheers,
Haeph.
